Antone with any m30 + nitrous experience?

Post by T_C_D »

I recall one guy in Texas who said he ran it. Would love to see a dyno sheet.

A guy from NO named Mike LaFrance used to run some damn fast times at the track with a junkyard M30 using nitrous...

I remember him. Didn't believe it then and do not believe it now. 75 shot not likely to equal 200rwhp.

Read that several years ago and just revisited it. No real useful information.

I seem to recall that Chris Gregor of Gregor Performance has nitrous and a haltech standalone on his 635. He was at Sharkfest and 5erfest this year, and posts periodically on Roadfly.

I am probably the guy in Texas that you are referring to. I ran a NOS dry kit with a 75hp shot on my m30b34. It worked very well and the car was pretty darn quick. At least as fast in a straight line as a US e28 M5. I never had any kind of knock or any real issues whatsoever running the kit. All I did was run one heat range cooler plug. I wish I had dynoed the car but alas, no dyno or quarter mile times, and the kit is long gone
As fun as it was refilling the bottle got old as it was pretty addicting. Also, unless you invest in a remote bottle opener and a heater the experience can be less that optimal. If the goal was to make serious power on spray, a wet fogger or better yet, a direct port setup would rock. It would be pretty easy to plumb into an m30 mani. Bang for the buck, you can't beat it, but it can get expensive when refilling the bottle alot ;)

Todd:

One of the guys I used to race with (in my 944) was running a 528e chassis, euro dirty 3.5L motor with a bottle on it. The bottle was mounted in the spare tire well. He had it on a WOT switch activated by the horn. The joke around the paddock was always "If you see a white E28 coming up behind you and hear him honking his horn, get the hell out of the way!"

Never had it on a dyno that I know of, but I know that car screamed down the back straight at PIR. Watched him pass (other than myself) many high HP cars.

There was a 635CSI For sale around here with a bottle on it years ago. Looked bad ass.

You have to mount it on the parcel shelf surrounded in neon, though.

So I just ate a big slice of "seller's remorse". Euro 535i seller decided to not sell the car to me and keep it for himself.

I am going to install the kit on something next week! Not sure which car but one of them.

Hmm...a direct port nitro system in Ratty would be a lot of fun...

Yes, he was with me at Sharkfest but not 5erfest. That car is stock with a Haltech ecu that I installed. We ran the Zex kit on it and pulled 400HP (crank) on the dyno at TPS Performance here in West Palm Beach. At Moroso, the car ran a high 12 in the 1/4 mile--amazing results. Chris would be happy to chime in on this as well but he is out to sea, working. I witnessed both the dyno pulls and the drag strip run. The motor is being replaced with a fully built turbo motor at the moment, but lasted quite a while with many, many bottles of nitrous. So, yes, nitrous does work but the tuning, like anything else, will determine the actual results.

Todd,

I know you have discounted Mike LaFrance from the get-go, buy have you ever talked to him? If you get a minute, call 504 738 2156 and just talk to the guy. I'm not a member of his fan club, nor do I know him, but it may be worth a call to see what he did and how it has turned out. Shit, if you don't want to talk to the guy I'll call him, or even go out there and meet him, if you want.

I'm just sayin...

I talked to someone last year claiming to be Mike's GF, and she said he quit working at Bimmerwerks. Not sure where he went...last year was a bit fuzzy lol...
