Which tranny is this?

Post by skip535i »

I have this tranny out of my old car (was a replacement from a 533i I belive).

It's in my garage and needs to go so I'm gonna sell it dirty cheap.

It was a great tranny, nice a tight when removed.

Looks like a Getrag 260/5 to me, especially if out of a 533i...

Same here, because the bellhouse isn't removable (so not a 265), the shift plate mounts look like sheet metal ones and the cooling fins on the bottom are smaller( so not a 260/6).

That's a 260/5. It should actually say that on I think the left side of the case.

Why does that matter? The flywheel isn't part of the transmission.

It may matter because the 260/5 requires the proper pressure plate to fit inside it's smaller bellhousing. The chunkier clutch bits won't go in there.

But, we know it's a 260/5 and since they were used only in '83 and '84, then then the 265, followed by the 260/6.
