WTB: E28 Touring

Post by pldlnr »

Does anyone know of a e28 touring in the states or have one they want to sell? I have not seen one or been able to find one. I think it would be such a cool car to own. Thanks,

Paul

You do know, don't you, that they were coach-built and not by BMW? Several companies did conversions, some better than others. Rust and rear-hits are not a Touring's friends. Rare today 'cause they were rare then.

Isn't ovide's car still with Jody?

While I think they're cool, I wouldn't want to own one. Lots of ghetto-rigged crap in those from what I've heard, though my source is a pessimist.

I know where you can get one. It has some rust in the rear, but not too bad. The car is a hell of a lot of fun to drive, though! PM me for info on where it is and such.

Edit: Same car that wkohler is talking about also.

I haven't even checked the reply yet... So I am sure it is saying something about how it was already mentioned in this thread!!!

I am still not sober but did realize that we all posted at the same time.. So it's not that I didn't read the rest of the posts, but that it wasn't posted yet.. We were all just talking about the same car but on different levels of knowing where the car is... And this concluded my unsober indepth looks at this situation... Have a good night!

Could you elaborate and help me understand a little better. I really have no knowledge on the touring model. Thanks in advance,

Allow me to repeat myself:

That would imply the build-quality was iffy, one-off in some cases, and some were no more than back-yard conversions. To be fair, some companies did convert them in series, but still the conversion quality is most certainly not up to BMW standards and may not have stood the test of time very well. YMMV

It's not a touring model -- it's a modification. The hatch is off another car (obviously), the taillights are cut straight down the middle and the cut is covered with black plastic, the rear seat is modified, the interior is hand-built, and the hatch sill area is fiberglass. If you ever have to fix any of the modified bodywork, you will not be able to use a stock part.

Thanks for the info. Maybe I will think twice and admire from afar.

Sure you will. You'll just need to modify it as well. ;)

Hi, Ivo here.

Funny thing is that I just talked to Jody last week to get my touring fixed up. He has a bodyshop and owns several BMW's so he knows what he's doing.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my car at 5erfest '07 Chattanooga.

And yes the car is still for sale. Although I really would like Jody to buy it if he's able to, I need to get some funds for my new project.
I'm open to offers but it will not go for a little, especially now that it's taken care of(the rust that is) Other then that it's in top conditions. Engine only covered about 100K and all bushings have bin replaced and the gremlins eliminated.

PM me for more info.

Best regards, Ivo Christov.
