E28 Megasquirt FAQ
I think I had too much time between when you told me the options to get and the time I ordered. I have had so much crap going thru my mind about this build trying to figure out this and that. I'm gonna need a vacation after I am done with this build. I just sent DIY an email explaining my situation, hopefully they can steer me in the right direction. I do thank you guys, you really don't have to help me at all and I appreciate every bit of info I am getting. I hope to reimburse those who helped me with tasty alcoholic treats at 5erfest. please print and save this coupon for 5erfest use.

here's the scoop:
...What this amounts to is that a v3.57 is actually pretty easy to modify for a direct coil control, and super easy to switch to a VR sensor input. All you have to do it run a jumper wire from JS10 to IGBTIN, and install a BIP373 in the q16 spot on the output side. Then on the input side of things, you'll change jumper JP1 shunt over on pins 1-2 and J1 on pins 5-6(if its an inverted input that you need. IE: if all of the guys with v3.0s were jumpering Tsel to VRoutinv you'll use pins 5-6)

I'm having problems loading megatune... I go into
http://www.megamanual.com/files/software/ and notice there are about 12 different files to download. which do I download? is this something I need to pay for? I downloaded it on my computer here at the shop to see what I was getting into I don't know what I downloaded, but I was able to get to the tuning portion. I deleted it knowing I wasn't going to tune with this computer. I went home and got on my laptop to download and couldn't get the same download...or couldn't get it to open the program. The laptop is a dell Inspiron 1100 (junk right?). I have a buddy who tunes Hondas who is kindly letting me use his WB and his mini laptop until I get the car tuned, so I am happy about that.

while we are on the topic of trigger angles and what not, I wanted to check my timing when i swapped out the rad but i read timing moves with temperature so it wouldnt be good to run it with no rad.
Which brings me to the next question...I think i would be able to visually access the hole on the bell housing that i guess was used for timing on the older m30s, would i be able to confirm timing there?
EDIT: quick reading through the megamanual answered this last question..

It's been a while since I assembled mine, but it was pretty easy. I think the components were in labeled bags and they just go where they are silkscreened on the board. As for wiring, you need switched 12V (I used the switched power that turns on the MS controller), ground, connect the Fidle output pin from MS to the Fidle pad on the idle board, and ISV1 out and ISV2 out are connected to the idle control valve open and close pins on the Motronic connector.

What size injectors?
There's not really a "too much." It is what it is if your idle is right. With my 60 lb/hr inj.s I'm sitting right at 1.7, which is the recommended threshold of too much injector. I'm getting picky with it though, mine idles better than my stock eta. My 7 is real close, not wine glass close, but bmw inline 6 close. I'm still shooting for absolute perfection, and I feel megasquirt is capable. When I dyno'd, the operator said I had the best running megasquirted car he had ever seen. Not saying much out here in the midwest, but still felt pretty good.

Well, I got them from RPM Outlet in June of '07. They were the 60lb EV1 and went for $236 for 8. I see on the website they are around $400 now. I'm thinking of downsizing though, I bought these when I still messing around with a piggy back system that failed miserably. It runs and idles pretty well, so who knows. I may sell mine and try a size smaller just out of curiosity. MS2 is calling for me too...e30-m30_kid89 wrote:They're 36lbers. yeah around there is when the car idles best, those it idles on the rich side.
Where did you get your 60lb injectors from? Im looking at upgrading in the not too distant future.
I got my 42lb/hr injectors from Deatschwerks. They have their 60lb/hr ones for $289 which is a good price. They are also high-z which makes tuning them in MT that much easier.
