so i recently bought a 1987 535is and i love it but i have one problem that is very scary.

when i go to brake the pedal is very hard/stiff and doesnt want to move for a quick moment. then it goes down like normal and brakes the car. it doesnt happen every time i brake but enough that it has scared me a few times allready. i seems to happen only after driving for a while and not using the brakes.

has anyone ever heard of this problem? id love to get some advice on this as its definetly not normal.

if you need more info let me know.

thanks everyone

misha

Oh man, Icehaus and I were close to Santa Barbara last Friday, too bad we didn't know about your issue. !@#$

Sounds like it might be a bad master cylinder or a bad brake bomb, or both. You can fix both for about $200.00 plus your labor. The repairs are fully documented in your e28 Bentley manual. :D Um, you DO have a Bentley don't you?

I'm going to vote on the brake bomb.

The Bentley has a pretty good write up on diagnosing the brake booster system but you will need a pressure gage.

Replace the ps filter at the same time you do the bomb. Bomb is 60-64 and the filter is approx 10. Let me know if I can help with the parts or diagnosis

Nonononono! ~0

Ebay had one yesterday. Robert Bentley Publishing has 'em all the time. So do many aftermarket parts suppliers like Bavarian Autosport. So does Amazon.com. Figure on paying $25 (used) and up for one.

BMW can't be bothered with rabble like us unless we're hauling our cars into their dealerships for paid repairs. :@
