Show Us Your Knives

Post by davintosh »

The news about the Boy Scouts in the UK was a little tough to swallow for me... I don't know about the rest of you, but if I don't have my knife in my pocket, things are just not right. I use it for lots of things, including what it was designed for -- cutting things. :D

So I was wondering whether I'm alone in that, or if others feel the same way. So if you got 'em, snap a photo & show 'em off.

I'll start; I carry a Kershaw Scallion (designed by Ken Onion... Scallion - Onion... Get it? Yeah.)

I bought it a couple of years ago after losing my old knife. I was looking for something cheap, like my old no-name knife, and stopped by Ace Hardware to see what they had. The salesguy showed me this thing, and he had me with the opening mechanism. Flick the knob on the handle and, click, it's open Almost like a switchblade. And it's got a good quality blade; holds an edge like my no-name knives never could.

Had to make a movie of it to show it off a little.

No, I'm not selling for them, but I could! :D

Those r definately some nice blades. I used to have an extremely nice collection unfortunately a lot of them were jacked somehow. Makes me mad.

I had a lot more knives than i currently do. I have the tendency to loose them since I don't own a knife that I wouldn't carry and use. A couple of my favorite, which i still own, were bought in Italy and I can't even find a photo of them online. They are folding Fox 2.5-3in blades, one is green straight blade, the other is blue and partially serrated. Apparently they are so uncommon that I can't even track down a replacement screw which fell out (Finders beer if anyone can help!!). I also own an assortment of Gerber wilderness folding knives. My favorite Gerber, bought by my sister, was anodized blue. Sadly, it went off the back bumper of my Tahoe at 70mph.

I usually keep a leatherman wave on my hip. It really comes in handy. Believe it or not, even the phillips head screwdriver works pretty well.

My carry knife is the Victorinox Swiss Champ. I never leave home without it. I have a good size collection of specialty knives, too. Things like the Gerber BMF, Mark I and Mark II, a Tom Brown one-off tanto, Stamascus drop point hunter with scrollwork on the guard, a few other hand made knives that are just to perfect to risk damage to; thus they're not carried. (Like the one I bought from Scott Shoemaker.) They're just functional artwork. Several other pocket folding knives from Victorinox, Gerber, and others (including a BMW folder made in Germany.)

I gotta take some pictures of this stuff sometime.

Say hello to my leetle friends....

Image

This is my newest addition....

a 10" Shun "Onion" Chef's Knife,
a knife designed by Ken Onion for Shun....

Image

I love this knife,
I love the blade design, the feel and the balance and the way it looks, mine does not have the Japanese writing on it like the one the pic but it has the cool looking steel grain blade.....
it is a nice addition to my GLobal and Heinkels knives too.....

My Pocket Knife is a Spyderco Folding Pocket Knife with Spyder serrated edge, small but the serrated edge comes in very handy....

I love hardware....

"I cut you up, Meng"

For kitchen knives I have Cutco (because I used to sell them). They really are amazing knives.

I've got a leatherman, a few buck knives, and a Gerber fixed blade for skinnin things.

Right after I moved to my house , I was clearing some brush and found what I later discovered to be a Japanese army issue trench knife. It is about 14" long and maybe 3/16 at its thickest and 2" wide. Prolly weighs 1 1/4lbs. I have yet to find a practical use for it.

Pics?

Any flex to it?
Prolly straight correct and not curved?

I like knives similar to that (a Cimiter, Simitar whatever)
Image
basically long thin (short in height ) blades for cutting/de-skinning fish or cutting/breaking down large loins of meat,
like strips, ribeyes basically large butchery...
dismembering bodies,
whatever you large butchery needs might be

Or use it as intended,
dig a ditch,
climb down into it,
wait for someone to come by and then jump out yelling "BONZAI!!!"

Halloween is right around the corner you know...

Doubt it; these things sell at Ace Hardware.

Mine opens a lot like Brian's, but I consider it more of a tool than a weapon. I could do some serious damage to a bad guy with it, but fists, elbows, knees & boots are handier and probably capable of disabling said bad guy more quickly than the 3" knife blade.

Maybe it's just dual edged switch blades that are illegal
