Let's ban any FS/WTB/Feeler threads bumped in < 36 hours

Post by Blue Shadow »

We need a time out for those that abuse the 'bump' feature.

I think we need to have the beamters create a time-out forum to place any of these threads that abuse the bump for a 24-hour invisible period.

Bumps are good, I sold an item I bumped what 9 months after first post. But bumping in less than 36 hours is rude. Others may have a different opinion on the time lapse to avoid this rudeness.

Be nice to see something done about it.

Maybe ban the OP that bumps too soon for a week?

Then we can get into shill bumping. Be fun to sleuth those out like folks try to on the bay.

More fun for your mye28 enjoyment.

Although I sympathize with the sentiment, I disagree. On one hand, it is somewhat annoying, but at the same time it shows motivation and this is important information from an economic perspective because it allows would-be buyers to know that the person is highly motivated, and this motivation will be reflected in the terms available. So I think it's one of those things were the market here should be left to its own devices.

That's a stupid idea.

I see nothing wrong with bumping a thread after a day or so. Plus, it's not that common of a thing that it should warrant a policy. People here are a lot better than people elsewhere. That said, stuff stays in the first couple pages of our classifieds a lot longer than anywhere else.

Well, one guy a few months back bumped a topic after EIGHT hours.
Not 1 day, 2 days...8 hours. And then have the nerve to say "seriously nobody wants this?" like everyone is watching it or in need of the part

I think moving a thread to better match content of the thread with the appropriate forum is legitimate.

I see threads being moved to correct forums, but I'm talking about a special invisible forum that the offenders thread is sent to for a 24 hour period while the excess bump crime is paid.

I see what folks are talking about with the frequency of the bump being an indication of the urgency or desire.

Shadow I think this may be a tad harsh, but I do agree that perhaps something should be done in some instances. Why looky here http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=70498 (unintentional bump on my behalf) New guy bumps his thread in barely 2 hours.

Perhaps folks should be warned maybe a 1st & 2nd time prior to a time-out. Only thing is this would probably make managing the board a tad more labor intensive for the Beamters.

edit: A bumped thread in 24 hours does get on my nerves.

I like the input on the state of mind of the seller/buyer based on the frequency of the bumps.

I think it's perfectly legitimate to bump a thread once it has passed off the first page but on these more specialized forums that usually takes some time to happen. On bf.c you'd be bumping your threads every four minutes if they didn't have that automerge double post feature...

But really, banning for bumping? What is this, an e30 forum now?

Well those 3-series guys are a bit anxious. One would think these guys, many of them a younger generation would understand the interweb and the idea that if the post sits for a few hours it would not hurt anything because and I'm guessing here that this younger group will look through the for sale section, not just the first 3 posts.

But maybe the attention span is so short that the only posts that receive any action are the first three.

Nail, meet hammer.

You think we're short on focus here, try snooping around r3vlimited.com for a bit! It makes for some funny reading though...
