Another suggestion for the Board

Post by BDK »

Can we be like the rest of the forums and make it a rule that a price and pics must be included in the FS Section ads???...

Reasoning...

I would like to see what I am buying....
I would like to know that the price I am told is the same as others and to keep the ebay bidding on ebay...
I just really hate for sale ads that say "call, write, text for price"...
I never ever do call, write or text for the price,
if you are afraid or ashamed to post your price then sell it somewhere else.....

thanks

I have never posted something for sale without a price but I frequently post things for sale without a picture. Sometimes a picture isn't necessary.

I would also exclude the "what is this worth?" type of feeler/FS posts. If the person doesn't know what to sell the part for and expert will come along and ring in with a price (hopefully via PM.) After that it is up to the perosn selling to put up an asking price. I do think that for anything cosmetic or anything that indicates potential wear or damage that a pic is very important. Everyone knows what an ECU looks like, but one person's "these wheels are in good condition" can mean rashed, bent, and cracked but they hold air.

People have no right to ask for pictures for things like an ECU, relays, fuel pressure regulators, starters, window regulators, wiper motors etc....you CANNOT tell how something functions by looking at it, its annoying and when people say they will take their business elsewhere, nobody cares. If you live in a rusty area, you are pretty much obligated to show it however.
You without a doubt need pics for most of everything else, but i almost never take pics of anything and dont have any problems so far.

Well, I think an FPR should have a photo since I don't want to buy an ugly-ass FPR, even if it does work perfectly.

This kind of thing is self regulating. If someone doesn't post a price or pics then they won't generally sell the item. No one reads forum rules anyway so there's really no point.

When are y'all going to recognize the recurring theme here? The beamters and the majority of us members apparantly feel that this board operates just fine without umteen-thousand extra rules and regulations that no one is going to read and no one has the time to moderate. More laws do not always make a better place to live.

Bingo!

If somebody would like to put together a post detailing how to put together an effective FS ad, I'd be happy to sticky to the top of the FS forums. Rules require enforcement, less is generally better. I prefer a very Libertarian philosophy with regards to forum regulation.

Ok,
I should have said anything bigger than a roundel or anything considered auto accessories, as far as pics etc.....
No, I don't need a pic of an ECU or a light switch.....
Depending on the seller, I don't need a pic at all....
Ladue, TCD etc...they tell me what it is, what shape it is in and I buy it or don't.... that's it....
but mostly
I just can't stand...
" I have this for sale but I refuse to show you a pic or tell you a price" type ads, they really irk me......
Some guys come to play forum ebay because they are too cheap or stupid to actually put it on ebay....

sorry, I'm done,
I found something else somewhere else and It was higher on my list anyway ....
but in general, post a friggin pic and a price dammit....

it's Christmas time, I am shopping and trying to get thru the line...

I recall getting into it with someone because he refused to post pics of a set of wheels he was selling that were "like new". If I'm paying good money for a set of "like new" wheels and don't know the seller personally or don't know their reputation, I want to see the item. The attitude irks me but as previously mentioned, it is self regulation as people typically choose to avoid these arrogant/ignorant pricks anyway.
On the other hand, I think there are items that really don't require a pic.
Having the seller post an asking price though is a fair request. I too don't care for the whole "PM me for price" mentality.

I was just subliminally throwing out an ad for all the check-writers out there.

I am not a fan of cash-register check writers sometimes. At Costco it's cool, because you can just hand them a blank check and the register fills it out.

The people that hand over a signed blank check boggle my mind, but that's a whole other topic.

On the subject of cash register check writers. You've been standing in line ... you know everything except the exact amount ... why the hell did you start writing at the last possible moment??

Course, I got stuck behind a change counting granny today, so I'm extra irked.

Well, it gets worse with the folks who fill out the register before writing the check.

Everything in the for sale section should have location and price in the title...

If it's a car, it should have pictures in the ad and year + model number in the title.

If it's parts, I don't think that it's always necessary to provide photos.

Just my 2¢
