What did you do to your E28 today?
Actually it was yesterday...
Drove it in the annual Houston Chapter BMW CCA Hair Of the Dog Drive.
168 miles, or so the route sheet said, couldn't verify that by my odometer,
and a chilly 53 degrees, could verify that by the by-passed heater core.

small things
1 - new front hub bearing caps to permit winter wheels' center cap installation
2 - replacement instrument cluster fixed intermittent bad traces
3 - new driver door $eal helped curtail slight door rattles, but failed to stop wind noises at highway speeds, drat. Cannot find yet on ETK the next needed part for the window noises...
some nice snowy backroad driving evaluating Green Diamond tire performance on snow...seem to be decent.

Changed the oil and fixed my sticky e-brake button.
I simply unscrewed it, pulled out the spring, stretched it a little and reinstalled. Works great but I will be replacing it soon.
I also added one layer of aluminum tape to my hubcentric rings to give a more snug fit.
What I really wanted to do is install my 750 front and rear big brake upgrade.
I have all the parts but just don't trust myself when it comes to bleeding brakes.
Not to mention that I live on a hill thats almost a 1/2 long mile with a 90 degree left turn at the bottom.
So if you don't make it, you don't make it.....

Guilt finally caught up with me. I jacked Gretchen W-A-Y up and put her on 4 jack stands and a set of wheel blocks on the rear.
She's getting the new control arms that have been sitting in the packages since last June!
The digital thermometer says the concrete is 27* and the ambient air temperature in the garage is 12* !
My butt is still cold, I need more foam pads.
For anyone undertaking this project, especially the first time, Rod Paine's excellent site is required reading. Thanks Rod.

On Sunday, I hit sixteen cones at the Auto-X (11 in one wack, after the finish resulting in an "Extreme DNF"). I hit 299k on the way home. Then, I swapped the Hartge wheels on for a while. Monday, I drove it some more and brought a trunk lid home from the yard for the 533.
533i:
I removed the original trunk lid with the RD wing and replaced it with the unit I pulled from an '86 528e. I replaced the toolkit foam with one for the big toolkit , removed the badge and polished/waxed it. It has original paint like the rest of the car, so it doesn't look out of place. I also touched up some rock chips around the car since I had a bit of touch-up to do on the trunk lid.
Tomorrow, I'll install the 533i badge in the correct location. I unfortunately, didn't have one at home.

For sale... I'd even give you the trunklid if you took a roadtrip.binchats wrote:where is the RD wing going....?wkohler wrote:535is:

Please define "quick and easy", including the process.tschultz wrote:it's really quick and easyswatterssr wrote: Wish I had the motivation to replace that heater core.
Not really...
If the process is "quick and easy", I'm sure you'll be famous with your Tech FAQ entry.
According to my definition, replacing an oil pressure switch is "quick and easy".

I got the left rear shock cut off the car, and installed a new sachs shock back there and swapped over the new rotors, pads, and front sway bar end link from my 633 onto the left side of the 535i.
Now i need to flip them around in the garage and do the right side of the 535i with all the new parts that are on the 633.
then the head water pump and new fan clutch on the 633 will go on the 535. The tick from the flat cam on the 535 is annoying.
no frozen butts in my garage I have heat, i just flip up the thermostat from 50 to 75 and wait 30 mins then I can work in comfort.

Took a stroll through Ecology came up on a grip of goodies for my girl. Internal and external fuel pumps, illuminatted switches, instrument cluster, two red dc covers, ecu out of an 325, cig. lighter housing, and a couple other odd balls all in all not a bad for a rainy day. FYI half off when raining at ecology
