What did you do to your E28 today?
She started acting funny, after leaking ATF from the cooler lines for a few weeks. Sure enough, the fluid was low. Bought some ATF from Autozone, then got it home and read the label a little more carefully. Nope, wrong stuff. Went BACK to Autozone, got the right stuff (says import cars on the front, BMW somewhere on the back), put it in the transmission, and I think the leak WENT AWAY?!?
Last night a buddy and I worked on my condensation problem in my trunk. ALL he trunk carpet came out, the rear cardboard, and the trunk trim piece itself. We discovered a small (ended up being about an inch or so) rust hole by the driver tail light... so we fixed and filled with fiberglass. Sanding the f.g. wil commence next week as well as paint to make her look pretty. We used heat lamps to dry the trunk and removed the insulation and adhesive left overs. We also filled in the broken antennae with "The Right Stuff" to prevent water entry into the trunk.
This morning, raining like hell... still a little water coming into the trunk by the tail lights... so we gotta get in there and fig out where the leak i coming from.
Later almost to work... I am behind a car who hits a 6 inch dia. branch in the road and ricochett's in my lane. It's going to be the oil pan or the tire I thought, so I swerved to hit my tire and instead knocked a fog light out... which dangled till I got to work. Repair to commence later.

Pulled center console and lower dash to install wiring for auto power antenna disable/enable switch (wife might leave the radio on when parking before an ice storm - don't want antenna motor damage, and don't want to always drive with the antenna up any time the head unit is switched on) and replaced numerous interior bulbs while in there...
A good reminder why never to underestimate the efforts required to maintain a fully functional and clean interior... especially without a garage in winter.

didnt DO anything on the e28 today but i did receive my euro headlight washer system from Ivo over in the Netherlands. Very much looking forward to installing them.
Did make a little more headway on the resto of the e9 interior though. replaced rear deck infiniti 5x7 cappas with 6.5 inch kappas. Also finished dying the front seats...

Hella H4's are finally in with sylvania silverstar bulbs. They went in without much struggle, though one plastic screw did break in process of it coming out, but, I managed to get the lamp in without the grill all the way off. Good thing I'm young and still have relatively nimble fingers.
I am very happy with the results, light output is much better than the stock sealed beams. Nice results for the first real upgrade I have done to the car.

i will be purchasing my first e28 tonight!
http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?t=72778
first up will be new dog bones, new fuel filter, clean up the engine bay to see if the power steering lines are leaking...
possibly new tires
tighten down the seats (back is a little loose) and look into fixing the headrests.
im sure there will be a bunch of little things i will fine to tweak...
the seller is throwing in a set of euro yellow high beams. what do you guys think about these on a euro converted car?

That's freaking weird...I just finished the same procedure about 2 hrs ago on my car...briansmith wrote:Pulled center console and lower dash to install wiring for auto power antenna disable/enable switch.
Oh and lubed my squeaky blower motor and finally installed the microphone for the bluetooth function on my head unit.

Great minds make the same dumb mistakes?Xenocide wrote:That's freaking weird...I just finished the same procedure about 2 hrs ago on my car...briansmith wrote:Pulled center console and lower dash to install wiring for auto power antenna disable/enable switch.

I'm using 2 driving/fog light buttons in the factory locations on either side of the head unit; one to switch power on/off for all "remote on" systems controlled by the head unit (amplified subwoofer and antenna) and one to switch off strictly the antenna.
Oh, and I replaced my blower motor last week.
One more thing alike in a row and we've gotta swap cars.
My occasional mechanic says it's time for CV boots, what is next for you?
I used one of my fuel pump switches I had installed in place of the clock. Now I'm just running both pumps on one switch.briansmith wrote:I'm using 2 driving/fog light buttons in the factory locations on either side of the head unit
That depends largely on what breaks nextbriansmith wrote:what is next for you?
If I can swing the cash in the months to come, probably an either an 885 or a 731 head.

Today was a bad day for the e28s.
The M535i was running way too hot yesterday, so I had to track that down. Replaced the fan clutch and aux temp sensors, bled and bled and bled. Then went to troubleshoot the sloppy shifter. Turned out the sheet metal shift console had broken at the rear. Thankfully I have a spare.
Then I went to replace the PS pump on the M5 which had left it layed up for the past month, took it out for a drive and the driver's side front caliper locked up and flat spotted a tire. Gotta pull those off and rebuild them tomorrow. Boo hiss.
