Need a new for sale category
Need a new for sale category
Since the site administrator recently made a rule saying if it's not your car, you can't create a post telling others about the car in the cars for sale section. So no more tipping off other forum members about E28's and other cars FS. Due to this new rule, I suggest a new for sale section.called Craigslist and Ebay. Here's how the NorCalE30.com forum does it.

I agree with you, G Man. A new forum is in order. I can agree that our FS Parts and Cars Forums had become over-run with N/A adds, but the solution isn't to put all of these threads into one thread, but rather to have another forum for them.
*Disclaimer* If our board can't handle the extra space to accommodate these threads or an extra forum, I retract my statement; but I highly doubt the change was made because we are running out of space.

This is a complex topic with many implications. I've reserved judgment until I felt I'd thought it through enough to make a sound recommendation supported by reason (which is a bit unlike me). I even waited and found the right place to do it, even though I have been tempted to spout off in plenty of others. I too hate the new format because of the way I used the forum, which however doesn't necessarily make it right. I've always enjoyed perusing the For Sale / Wanted - Cars section and seeing all kinds of wild shit. And talking about it. It is another extension of our community which gives you insight into other members' personalities, dislikes, etc, and doesn't require a metric tool set. Like General Conversation however a dictionary is still recommended.
That said, I get why it makes sense to see this section used as it was intended and I have no problem with that. As an E28 site, it's not out of the question to want a section devoted to the sale of, trade for, or desire to find a particular E28. This purity can be preserved without too much disappointment on my end, and I agree that the confusion that existed in there previously was almost embarrassing. While looking for an E28 for a friend recently I can honestly say that I found it a bit annoying that hardly any of the cars for sale were E28s, so again, I get it.
The second bummer about the way the For Sale sections have been abused up until now is the deals that were blown open once everyone found out about them. This is a viable concern and a reason for someone to be genuinely ashamed of themselves. Anyone who has found an auction on their own is prevented from sealing the deal (typically) until the time runs out and therefore is vulnerable to the masses also finding out and wrecking it for them. Accelerating this chance by posting it for our group of E28 consumers is borderline sadistic. I really think it makes good sense to mandate that posting auctions should be restricted to those selling something.
I don't have much sympathy for Craigslist ads and feel they are fair game. Anyone coming across a CL ad on their own for something they find desirable is encouraged to contact the seller themselves and work out a deal before anyone else finds it. And a fool not to. It's the way she goes. No crying about someone sniping you later allowed. In an extreme case maybe post the CL ad with a stake that you're after the item. I think we can pretty much count on the majority of our members to maintain a modicum of honor here. Or, perhaps you're simply not into spending your time wading through Craigslist ads. This site as a digest for things related to BMWs (or mock-Ferrari ice-cream-truck-limos with a plow blade) is both humorous and valuable.
In summary, I back the idea of a new Forum for cars For Sale / Wanted which:
· are not E28s
· do not belong to the poster
· may contain auction listings for only your items
· may contain links to anyone's CL ad
All this makes for a shitty name however so that part needs some work.
I also would like to see the current Cars and Parts Forums adopt a new policy regarding auctions and CL ads.

That is incorrect. You cannot create new threads for such items, but you can post them to your heart's content in the single thread reserved for doing so.G-Man wrote:Since the site administrator recently made a rule saying if it's not your car, you can't create a post telling others about the car in the cars for sale section. Re: Need a new for sale category
Take a look at the single line thread for non affiliated cars. If you want to know, it's a bunch of mumbo-jumbo, with everyone else's ad right in the middle of your thread. It's totally convoluted. Then someone else will comment on the ad way down the page so there's no continuity on the thread. It's first come, first served, how screwed up is that.Shawn D. wrote:That is incorrect. What next? I'm guessing a non affiliated parts thread.

This stuff kind of reminds of places where only the few get to decide what's good for the many.G-Man wrote:Take a look at the single line thread for non affiliated cars. I guess, this place is no different than any other place.
I'm not surprised anymore.

What does "everyone else's ad right in the middle of your thread" mean? Who is the "you" in "your thread"?G-Man wrote:Take a look at the single line thread for non affiliated cars. The existence of MyE28 places no obligation on you to use it, nor does it oblige us to perform with the purpose of pleasing everyone or resolving every quibble. You're perfectly free to not use this free service.demetk wrote:This stuff kind of reminds of places where only the few get to decide what's good for the many.

Like I said above, MyE28 is not a democracy, I know it and everyone else knows it, and as such you are perfectly free to arbitrarily do whatever you like.Shawn D. wrote: The existence of MyE28 places no obligation on you to use it, nor does it oblige us to perform with the purpose of pleasing everyone or resolving every quibble. I kinda like how it's discouraging all kinds of N/A adds. I hate when stuff I'm eyeballing get thrown up, as I stated before, for the world to see.G-Man wrote: Take a look at the single line thread for non affiliated cars. Re: Need a new for sale category
Once the Craigslist ad is posted, the Genie's out of the bottle and it's really hard to put it back in. Monica knows all about that after Linda Tripp taped thier phone call and posted it on the internet, the rest is history. That's kind of like saying that since you saw an ad on Craigslist, you should have an opportunity to buy it since you saw it. Sorry it doesn't work that way. That only way you could possibly be pissed off if I were to post a NA ad from your local geographic area. But by then, how many other people have seen the ad?slammin_e28 wrote:I kinda like how it's discouraging all kinds of N/A adds. I think most of the issue, at least with me, deals with ebay and other auctions. Increased traffic on an item in an auction is a sure way to really increase the price. Why should everyone get to find out about cool items that I looked and looked for?G-Man wrote: That's kind of like saying that since you saw an ad on Craigslist, you should have an opportunity to buy it since you saw it. I don't use CL that much for BMW stuff. There's just nothing worth anything in my area, usually. Ebay, OTOH, is a different story.
