I found out the hard way that the shop that milled my flywheel charged extra to pull the pins out & put them back. Heck, I'd have pulled them myself if I'd knowed that.

This weekend Dom and I finished the engine swap and got the 82 running again! WHoo Hoo!!!!!!! She runs great with no rod knock. BMW blue coolant and later updated alternator... she'll be just fine!

Over the last few months: front rotors and pads, brake fluid flush, o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, coolant temp sender, air filter, oil change (redline 10w-30).

Over the holiday weekend got the rest of the tune-up/baselining almost done. Plugs in, refurbished injectors from cruzin in, valve shims all measured, just need 5 new shims and reassembly with new gaskets. Waiting on fuel filter delivery.

Also fixed the SI board...was a loose connection on the back of the cluster. Swapped cruise control stalk. And refinished the steering wheel leather per another post on this site.

This site and others on the internet are awesome resources for these cars. Thanks everyone.

Still a decent list to go including some body work, but that's what Christmas vacation is for right?

Two days ago we found out there were 2 of the 3 botls connecting the driveshaft to the transmission were gone!

The last bolt was backed out and about to go. Fortunately we fixed it and preloaded the CSB. All gtg!

Manned up and rebuilt the LF caliper. (Boot was TOTALLY gone)
All advice taken from multiple searches here.
(Doing this one assures me that I'm going to have to do the others...)

Now to put it all back together...

A few days ago, actually, I uncovered Bandit, connected the battery and let him idle for 20 mins. Then I disconnected the battery, and after the mandatory cool-down period re-covered him for another month until I get a chance to do it again.

worked on gluing a new trunk gasket down for a couple hours.Work was totally all prep work. There was a little rust here and there, then i spent a bit trying to find a good pinch weld primer. anywho, I used this glue/epoxy stuff from carquest they recommended, if it doesnt work im going to be soo mad!!!!

I swapped out my old cluster with a new (to me) one.

Houston, Tach is back!

And we have Odo!

(funny thing though, the back of both had engravings for the three small connectors, blau weiß and grün but the connectors were two blue and one white. Of course I did not pay attention to which one went where so I was left staring dumb at it for ten minutes.

I ended up connecting the white one and guessed on the other two. And it works!)

I will be very busy this weekend.
1 - get my new dunlops mounted on my new 18" style 5s
2 - replace my pressure accumulator.
3 - install front HRs/Billie HDs
4 - swap in new ODO gears
5 - and pull some parts off the old 745

Got the valves adjusted today.
Man, that baby purrs now.
Ran some flush/cleaner through the cooling system this evening.
Will let it sit overnight and finish the process in the morning to insure all the oily residue is gone,
then install the thermostat, anti-freeze, fan and shroud, etc.
Getting this finished up make me

Finished the valve job and got everything back together. Still either a cap/rotor issue or FPR that needs replaces as cruzin at low revs produces a very very slight stutter. Plugs and injectors are new....

Otherwise, idle is like butter and sounds great.

Will have to research cruise control now, with new stalk in, doesn't work.

Picked up a front valance (stock iS, as well as bracket & hardware) this morning.
Also got my hands on L&R taillight assemblies.

To be installed Monday - too nice out not to go for a drive!

Drove it to work this morning after installing a replacement ECU last night: no more jerky acceleration!

Also, over the weekend I wrote my first Instructable; how to retrofit a BMW lighted key with an LED. Works great! I did the writeup on the 735i's key because the battery was dead and the lamp was broken in that one, but am planning to do the 528e's key next.

I replaced the burnt out lights on the climate control cluster per instructions found here on MyE28.com. Small job but very satisfying. Also changed out the air filter and get her an oil change (300 miles early). Weather was not too bad and needed to be done in the next week or so. Oh yea, cleaned the windows too!

I spent a couple of hours swapping out the vinyl panel behind the windshield into which the visors and the overhead check computer fix onto. Twenty screws! Now my OHC stays put, and ain't dangling down in front of the mirror!!!!

I finally got a pair of H1 bulbs for my brights. Now I have both French yellow brights up and blazing.

1. Replaced the AFM on the B9. Idle is now rock-steady at 950 rpm - thanks Todd/alpinacsi.

2. Cleaned windshield of M5.

3. Cleaned windshield of M3.

Put gas in the B9 and M5. Took all three cars out in the first decent day we've had in a week (sunny, 55 degrees). Got 'em all good and warmed up. "Italian tune-up" for all three cars (95 to 100 MPH) on my favorite .75 mile straight-away in the country, just south of town.

Blew the dust off.
