Sherman, glad your wife seems to be ok, but that was a hard hit and I bet she will be hurting soon if she isn't yet, soft tissue damage isn't all BS, it's just hard to track. Get her to a doc just for a check up and to document things. Really, it can take a little while for things to come out.

Here's the interior door shots.
Safeco's adjuster came by earlier this morning.
I didn't get a copy of his estimate, but he said it was over $8,000.
Now to get with their 'total loss' dept to get a fair valuation, for us of course.

All things considered, the passenger zone was protected fairly well. I guess making sure a passenger's head is next to the B-pillar instead of the window is a good call.

After taking and looking at those pics,
I'm wondering what the possibility is that the 'A' pillar has some damage.
Also realized that the glovebox and possibly dash has been damaged as well.

Now that the adjuster has done the initial estimate,
if it warms up this weekend and stays dry,
I'll be able to get out there and do a bit deeper investigation.
Any comments as for what else to look for would be appreciated.

In the mean time, if I determine it's salvageable,
I'll be needing that rear door, in black, and a rear tail light assembly. Anybody?
I have a friend who has a black E34 sedan that I'm hoping to secure the fender, front door, and rear bumper from.

Todd was parting a wagon a while back. He may have put some parts on the shelf that could help.

Got out today and took a little closer look;

The door is 'V' shaped at the bottom of the window opening and is pushed in at least 3 inches.

This indentation is 8 inches.

I'm wondering what the possibility is that the 'A' pillar has some damage.

The 'A' pillar is indeed tweaked a bit, my guess the upper hinge is turned inward a good 30°.
Won't be able to see the bottom hinge without opening the door.
If weather allows I'll see about doing that tomorrow and getting some better shots.
This will also allow a full inspection of the 'B' pillar damage.
Any thoughts on repair-ability of this type of structural damage?
Seeing it pushes me towards the not-gonna-repair decision.
And unless the "salvage buyback" price is really low and/or the "total loss" payoff is really high I think a part-out may be out of the question too.

driver seat bottom (mine has a split) or just the leather, and
various trim from the hatch area.

Well guys, I just got a call from Safeco's Total Loss Adjuster that was assigned to our claim.
Two bits of good news;
1 - Their initial valuation and payout met my expectations, and a check is in the mail...
2 - ...minus the salvage buy back of $441.90.
So I'll be keeping the car.

Next step is to have a friend come and look at it to see what the possibility is of restoring the 'a' and 'b' pillar damage.

Get those parts orders in, just in case.

Sorry for the delay, but with this and that, it's been a bit crazy in my world.
Got the settlement check, $4,658.10, which went towards the replacement and our grass payment.

The guy who was considering buying it "as is" has withdrawn his offer,
as it was estimated to be about $1,000.00 to put the a and b pillars back straight and replace and refinish the rear quarter panel.
We have a source for all the replacement parts, free, well free of cash payment that is.
So, it won't become a ///M5 Touring clone after all.

As far as parting it out, you can go back and see what's been called dibs on already and go from there.
I think that the entire interior has been spoken for, but that too is up in the air.

I'll post a 'For Sale / Wanted - Parts' thread in a few weeks, with a link here.
I'll need to get both this car's replacement and my eta replacement on the road before I start tearing into this one.
Winters here in the upper coastal part of south Texas don't always cooperate when outside activities are planned
so it'll be hit or miss as to a deadline for that happening, I'm hoping they'll be completed within the next two weeks.
We'll see...

We took the seats out of Black Beauty but I have another set I'm going to put in her.
Everything else is as she was when she left your place.
Everything needed mechanically, non drive train related, I should be able to pull off the eta.
I'll only have to source the door and fender, as I have no schwarz ones lying around.

Shouldn't take more than a good weathered weekend to get her road ready.

If a good excuse comes for getting up that way and time allows, I'll give you a shout.
I have talked about doing a Spring LSB&F thing up that way in April. We'll see... as that's somewhat close to our annual run to V@V, now just V, and the second running of the RTT.

P.S.
Does the BB ('86 schwarz 535) have a short shifter installed?
