Does your E28 have a soul? A personality?
Does your E28 have a soul? A personality?
I've been E28less for a about ten months now. I "traded up" to an E39 M5. It is an amazing car. My wife feels special riding in it. Shoot, I feel special driving it. The only problem is, I miss My E28! (Don't worry, Sherman, not the black one.)
Every E28 I have owned had a personality. The first, and eta, was like a puppy, always up for an adventure, full of energy, but not yet powerful. It even yelped when it was in trouble. The last was a bit of a snob. Didn't like to get dirty. Sure it would get up and go, but it seemed put out by it all. .
The one I really miss was Ole Grey. Ole Grey was the cutting horse. That car knew more about what I was doing than I did. It's feet were always planted where they should be and it could run fast and cut away even faster. We seemed to move and think as one. Only problem was 25 years and 400000 miles and Ole Grey had lost it's shine. The car was willing but the wiring just wasn't up to the task. With constant problems with the ECUs, Sensors, lights, radio, injectors. etc, etc, etc... The car had alzheimer's, muscular dystrophy, and Parlinson's. I had to accept the end had come.
I love my show horse but I need another cutting horse. Maybe not a grey this time, maybe a deep blue would be right, maybe Bronzit.
So whaddaya think? What kind of personality does your E28 have?

My car is a mix of both worlds. Somedays cutting like a Katana and multiple trips to the rev limiter, while others days she creeps out of the drive and I feel a tired guibo, warped front discs and no willingness to rev.
After looking at a white Mustang GT the other day, I got back in my DD and was greeted with the "low coolant" and "brake lining" light at the same time! Then the damn check panel fell out of the ceiling!! (This is an E30) WTF? It was apparent that the car was angry because when I've test driven other BMWs, she seemed even more eager to please. Mysterious.

My car is my best friend, and like OldSkool said, a mix of both worlds. On nice sunny days, I drop the windows and open the roof and go for a nice spirited drive an he really opens up an carves the corners like no other. Other days I can really feel the worn bushings, and have to deal with shoddy wiring and feel the need to take it slow so we just cruise. Like I said, he's my best friend, and his name is Spencer.
Anyone else name their cars??

He has an aggressive look when provoked, likes it when he gets a bath, loves to be driven hard, and rewards me when big checks are written for repairs.
And he's about to become a garage queen because he's been begging for the last few days.
He's needy, but reciprocates happiness when taken care of properly.

Nope, just blown shocks and a terrible reluctance to rev.
My E24 on the other hand is something of a prima donna. It's got a bad starter circuit, and it's too nice to turn into a track car, but too expensive for me to fully restore it (at least in the short term). Nice once you get it going, however.

"Pearl" typically shows her true colors on the cold mornings: "How dare you drive in this weather...fine, I'm just not going to let you shift into second. How does that feel, eh?" She has a tendency to be a bit lazy....but what do you expect, she's an eta
She's a great listener though. I've had more meaningful conversations with my car than with some humans.

No name for mine...
But she definitely loves being washed to show what beauty she has left.
On some days, she is very willing to rev and scream on up to 6500 rpm really growling from the engine... especially if it a nice day out and she hasn't been driven for a while.
On other days, old suspension and worn bushings can be noticed, along with warped rotors and a sluggishness to rev. Sort of depends on the weather, but she keeps on chugging along, as dependable as ever.Prefers longer drives and spirited driving than short errands.

Oh car personalities....
His name is Heinrich von Otto. On cold days he doesn't want to wake up. Other days he can't wait to get out and about. He's kind of a typical old man, in that he isn't fond of extremely loud music being played, so sometimes he will randomly cut the music off. However, I have found he makes an exception to this rule of his when any kind of German music is being played. Yes, Heinrich does have a soul!

Oh, Christ! So you have to listen to the Scorpions all the time?uacmarine wrote: He's kind of a typical old man, in that he isn't fond of extremely loud music being played, so sometimes he will randomly cut the music off. I would rather listen to Bach than The Scorpions. Hell, even Falco would be better

Scorpions, Kraftwerk, Neu!, Tangerine Dream, Nena, Falco, etc.C.R. Krieger wrote:Oh, Christ! Oh, and that Beethoven guy and Wagner. Bach to the future.
Ratty seemed to match my personality, rather than having it's own. Loud, bit of a jackass, low, people sometimes question how it's still working...
The e24 has 2 names now, either the Baron or Walter (as in Walter Matthau). In a sea of e30s and e36s at the local meets, it stands out as the classier elder statesman. Cold morning start up? Definitely a grumpy old man.

I have named the 533 "Bacall"....(as in, Lauren Bacall)

Sultry, needy...always left wanting a little more from me. To wit:
Today I stopped by the local stealer to inquire about center caps
(couldnt wait to do a DPP buy)...yep, Kohler was right (shocker...)
they were in stock and fairly priced. I needed only (1).
The problem: the older style has been replaced by a newer style.
The dilemma: run around in Bacall with 3 vs 1 center caps...?
The solution: Bacall wins....(4) new style caps....$80...thank you.
Not sure why that bothers me...the clear is missing from all the upper surfaces..it's gross....screaming for a paint-job....and Bacall talks me into 4 matching center caps...?
WTF?
She drives me nuts.

Heinrich's thoughts exactly, though he does seem to enjoy Rammstein playing at full blast. However, he strongly dislikes Blumchen, haha.
