and my saab moon roof flew off yesterday on the opposite side of the freeway, it was half assed installed. I was hit on the passenger side rear bumper. It pushed the right quarter up to the rear door with a slight wave in the quarter. I havent checked my gas door trunk looks ok.
What happened? Some ass stoped hard in front of me, I did not hit them. The guy behind me (John Holmes) avoided hitting me, stopping at a slight angle. Then he was hit hard, from behind slaming into me. Then two cars hit behind the car that hit me and John Holmes. Out of the three cars in my accident I got the least damage. My car looks hardly like it was hit, but it is probly totaled in the eyes of the insurance agent adjuster. Well let the battle begin

PS dont flame on the moon roof, I new I should have taken it out, But it wasent a nice one. I was on my way to get a new one. The last one Image

That sucks, man.

The thought of someone running into the back of me is my worst nightmare...

The rear quarter is a tricky spot. Best wishes... ~_~

Also my worst car nightmare... I think I'll do the extra brake lights upgrade next week now that I've been reminded.

Dinane28,
Jeez...I'm really sorry to hear about this incident but it sounds as if you're OK.
Please pardon my ignorance but is your e28 a "genuine" Dinan e28? What
exactly did Dinan do to the e28? I'd be curious to know more about it...
Will the fact that it is a "rare" e28 figure into the adjuster's decision to repair or total it out?

Whatever the case, just buy it back and fix it and/or part it out.

Hope you don't have any residual low-back-pain or other physical
health issues creep up. I've been hit 2x from behind and it really sux!
DON'T sign anything and if the driver's (or your) insurance company sends you a questionnaire asking you to rate on a scale of 0-100 (or similar) the amount of which
you consider yourself to be responsible for X,Y, or Z aspect of the crash....alway always always circle ZERO percent. AMHIN?

Best wishes and keep us informed on how things are proceeding...

Sorry to hear that!

It may be better that they total the car. The rear end is going to be totally out of whack if the panel is rippled. You may never get it perfectly "just right" again. Maybe now's a good time to look for a suitable replacement? Euro, maybe? :)

Good luck with the insurance company!

Thats horrible! I have to agree that getting hit in the rear is my biggest fear as well -- It's something that you as a driver have absolutely no control over. Hopefully the insurance company will cover things --
I'm tempted to start looking at putting collision insurance on my car as well - My rates are only $150/6months for just liability -- would anyone agree/disgree on doing this?

TJ,
Who do you use for insurance coverage? State Farm is charging me $49/mo for my "new" '87 535i 5spd (complete coverage - liability and collision). They REFUSED "classic coverage" on this but gave it to me on my former '87 535is and '89 928s4. I'm not sure how this compares with others' rates....carriers.
Thanks,
Tim

Glad you're OK! I've had this happen to me -- it's a PITA.

If you're ever around, I'll be sure to look out for flying moonroofs (OK, a mini-flame)!

Simon:

Damn son! That turns my stomach!!!! It IS every guys nightmare to get popped in traffic. We put so much TLC into our cars only to have some quirk of circumstance dash our efforts. Hope you can bring her back.

Aw, that sucks, Simon. My e9 got tagged in the rear on the Ross Island Bridge about 3 years ago. A good body shop can bring a unibody back, but it won't be cheap. Prepare for the insurance olympics...
