My M5 had been leaking some oil. Figured out last weekend that it was from the oil pressure switch and replaced it. Kept checking all week for oil spots on the ground whenever I parked it and found none so apparently that was the fix. Satisfaction!
Just finished power washing under the front end to get all the oil off the bottom of the engine, suspension, etc.

Rear suspension overhaul. New Billy HD's, swaybar links, strut mounts and dogbones. Dogbones were easy, but the sway links fought back. The right side rear shock wouldn't leave it's lower mount for anything. 4 Hours with a pickle fork later, I decided to bash on it with a 15 pound sledgehammer. It finally came off. Left side came off within 60 seconds.

Today: Washed it. Being parked near a flowering crabapple tree this time of year is a messy business.
Yesterday: Swapped out the old bad cheapo distributor rotor for the new good not-so-cheap unit; runs ever so much better now!
Also reinstalled the fuel pump & filter after scrubbing & wirebrushing the bracket for the two and spraying some fresh paint on them. Nobody will be able to see it, but I'll know things are minty fresh down there, and that's what matters.

Washed him, waxing just isn't going to happen. I also checked his fluids and noticed a small amount of oil in the garage (not new, I think the oil pan gasket will need to be replaced soon), and I also noticed that the PS fluid was a little low but not leaking and since I've yet to check it myself I don't have a baseline.
At least that I'd notice on the garage floor as ATF fluid.
I also secured my cig lighter for the GPS and prepped my CDs which are also in the car.

Totally awesome dude! That means its in AZ!wkohler wrote:Put some hood shocks on it, put a battery in it and checked to see what worked. Also removed the Alpina wheel locks and loosened all the lug bolts.
I your passion for these cars is very impressive. All of us here have it but you take it to the next level. And I mean that as a compliment.
I wish. Oh how I wish.rmiddendorf wrote:Well now that you're back from Europe hop on another plane and meet us in Winton-Salem!
And thank you so much for bringing up such a painful subject. While you're at it, why don't you give me a nice paper cut and pour lemon juice on it?
I blew most of my available vacation time, not to mention a huge wad of cash, so outings will be short and few the remainder of the year. Between that and a couple of monster projects at work, any car-related dealings will be close to home. Drink a beer or three for me. :sigh:

HOLY SCHMIDT! That was RUNNING!?davintosh wrote:Yesterday: Swapped out the old bad cheapo distributor rotor for the new good not-so-cheap unit; runs ever so much better now!
Finished the last few steps before tomorrow's euro-bumpered-front-end-reassembly. Bumper mounts hacked, turn signals modified. I pick up the valance tomorrow morning from the paint shop......
Rear end is as done as it's going to be for now. I'll fill all those holes later this summer or over the winter. For the moment I just want to get it back to where it can be driven!

Starting and idling, yes, but definitely not drivable. The problem was pretty obvious once I pulled the distributor cap; only wish I'd done that first.C.R. Krieger wrote:HOLY SCHMIDT! Got it on the road, N/A. This involved installing and wiring in a thermo fan, filling/bleeding the cooling system, changing the alternator and fiddling with the WAR tune. Drove it about 20km home, and suddenly she turned off. Pulled over, stressed out for a bit, thought it had run out of fuel, filled it up with a jerry can, and still no start. Then noticed on of the damn bellhousing sensors had fallen out.. Loctite those babies!
Despite being broken down, couldn't resist a photo.
Now the run in period. Gotta get it registered and roadworthied this week, then make a good few thousand k's to run her in, and then start refitting the turbo stuff. All coming together
