**Sherman Needs Help in VA**

Post by tsmall07 »

Sherman and Jose decided to go home early because of issues with the e12. The clutch has exploded and they are stuck. If anyone is near I-77 and US 52, give him a call if you can offer any help.

Everything was contained. It is possible that it just burned up, but it sounded like it was very sudden and catastrophic.

Is the same car they replaced the clutch in right before coming to The V??

Sounds like the step must be gone.

He could maybe find someone w/ a brake lathe and probably cut it on that to make it stay together.

I dunno if they swapped in a clutch before coming up, probably not.
I contacted one of the semi local forum members near the middle of freaking nowhere out there (buzby.) I have put him in touch with Sherman, so hopefully they can get something figured out for storage or repair. The alternative involves Sherman driving back home and then coming back to tow it home, which would suck quite a lot. I'd go out there and fix it with him if I didn't have to fly out to Denver tomorrow morning.

I can't offer any real advice here (or help) but I wish you the best of luck. If there's anything I can do from Ohio let me know.

Sherman had a clutch & pressure plate lying on the ground behind one car or the other in Winston Salem and some words about changing it before the trip. Just don't know which vehicle.

I spoke with Sherman as one of our 2002 friends just happened to be coming back from IN on 77 and saw the M5 and E12 and stopped to help. He called me and I put out a few calls to local BMW CCA members.

I spoke with Sherman several times. Last I heard they were leaving the E12 in Bland, VA and heading back to TX in the M5. They will return with a trailer to nab the E12 and tow it home.

Hope you made it back safely, Sherman!

brad.

This type of incident makes em think we need an email "hotline" from the board. not everyone checks the forum constantly, but it would be nice to have an opt in email distribution folks could use to ask for help.

Someone suggested Dan's MyE28 map could be used for this type of thing. I'm not going to put my phone number on a public site but my email forwards to my phone.

I talked with Sherman this afternoon and they are on their way back with the truck and trailer. The e12 should be loaded by sometime this evening. Apparently, the M5 got quite a workout on the way back to TX!

That's a great idea. I have not put my phone number on for the same reason, but I can handle upping my email security.

Just pulled in and unloaded.
Decided while we were back that way to rejoin RTT, I'm glad we did, more later.

Thanks to all who helped in any way at all, including the encouraging phone calls.

Reference to the thread about 3 below this one from the guy who objected to the 'rude-ass' unhelpful people on this board....who just turned out to help a member in distress.... ;)

THIS is the type of stuff that I look forward to seeing and reading. It makes the douche canoes that show up, blow up, and fade away all the more tolerable, especially when they bitch about how this group of folks are such assholes/douchebags/dicks/etc.

Screw Mick and his timing chain ;)

Glad you made it home and in one piece, Sherman.

Sherman,

Sorry to hear of the continuing saga of the e12. Hope to hear maybe some good things about the rest of your RTT experience. I feel pretty good about my M5 now, as it only lost an AC compressor on the way back to Minnesota. Hope you guys are doing well.

Shermo!

You my friend are a true enthusiast. I could not believe my eyes when you and Jose pulled into the parking lot at Fontana Village Wednesday am after returning to Texas to pick-up the truck and trailer.

Good to hear you and Jose made it home safe and sound.
