A Bit More on the Wheel trip south
:p Well, after returning home last night I was thankful I decided to drive the e39 instead of the F350, that would have beaten us to death, and in bumper to bumper traffic it's not much fun either.
Sometimes it's hard to believe that there are cars built that are as good as the Touring, it's almost surreally good. (@)

Pat,
Sweet! an e39 540iT...might have to get one of those for myself My wife is such a Volvo fanatic...wants a Cross-Country. For those kinda bucks we could get a nice BMW Touring! RED must be a rare color for the e39 in general. I've only seen maybe 3 including yours. Have fun with the navigation install. If I still have my 528i Sport at that time, I may be interested in reading about your experiences
Cheers,
Tim

We looked at the Volvo and drove an Audi A6 before buying the 540i. None were in the same league as the e39. Let her choose the color, but explain that you only look after BMW's.
She could talk to my wife, it's actually her car, and that would probably convince her. My wife was more or less indifferent to what brand was on the trunk lid, but now after three years of ownership, she won't have anything else. She says that she's never driven a car in which she feels as safe and secure.
Tim,
Bring that E39 out here. I can sell it for you in a week. I always have customers looing for 528i's. I won't let them buy 540i's (not good customers at least).
What are you asking for it?
My wife says whe'll trade it, for a turbo'd silver euro-M5 with a full leather Cardinal Red interior, and a six speed manual tranny. Gosh, where, oh where, would you ever find one of those?

Pat,
You read my mind....I'm looking at a white '87 targa now...but prefer a sunroof coupe also in white with the tail. The targas aren't supposed to be good for track / DE and are generally less hassle than the Targa and are quieter to boot. A colleague of mine has a very nice '84 targa that he might be willing to trade for my e39. We'll see...there's no rush. I've been reading for years about the 911. The timing for this is all wrong but it is nice to have plans....
Best,
Tim

Find a silver Euro M5, install a leather Cardinal Red interior (Rich in Savannah had the red leather e-brake console for sale a while back), and then get one of those riceboy boxes on eBay that makes the sound of a blowoff valve on demand. She'll never know the difference!
