B7 turbo value?

I have been debating the purchase of the following car for the last 6 months. I know that this is a hard thing to verify since there are not ever any of these that come up for sale. I am interested in what you think this car should fetch $$$$ ? It is right now in the range of a very good M5, which is where I would suspect it to be in it's present condition. What do you think the value of said car would be in pristine condition? Some of the details are as follows:
1985 B7 turbo
134,000 km (83k miles)
Some cosmetic issues - Hood dented (needs replacement)
Front valance dented (picture)
Alpina front spoiler (Not pictured, needs replacement)
Rear quarter panel dented (picture, needs body work
and paint)
Rear bumper dented (picture, both bumpers would
probably need replacement)
Interior is in good condition.
The only mechanical issues that I know of are Broken Spring and a battery drain associated with the alarm system.
I have yet to check the car out mechanically nor have I driven the car. We were supposed to get together last Fall but never did and then Winter set in. Both the owner and I have not been in a hurry.
I'd be interested to hear any comments
Thanks,
Jon

The car looks pretty nice except for the dents! How'd it get all those dents?
That's pretty low mileage, if you ask me. If the interior is in nice condition and the engine is all good (turbo doesn't need to be rebuilt, no leaks, etc), I say it's definitely worth the price of a nice M5.
But then, what do I know? I just drive an eta!

The current condition of the car is hardly relevant since most everything is cosmetic, however I would be a little concerned as usually what lurkes outside sometimes (not always) lurkes inside as well. Rarely have I seen a car that looks edgy on the outside that
didn't have some mechanical or deferred maintenance elsewhere. I am sure you will do
your homework on that end. If all is well with the motor, turbo, etc. I would say the car
in the current condition should fetch between $13-15k. What do you think?

Considering that Dana's H5s (which was low mileage and perfect) was sold to Tim for around 12 and probably went for around that to Adrian, I would say 13-15k is way high for the alpina. If the car runs great, I would say 7-10k tops since you need to figure 3-6k for proper body repairs and paint. Just my .02

The body work issues are minor IMO. My primary concern would be that the entire drivetrain along with other ALPINA specific parts be present and functional. In addition to the engine and transmission this car should have an oil pump and oil cooler for the differential. The pump is driven off a pulley on one of the diff's drive flanges. Another important opart that needs to be present and function is instrument head mounted in the center dash vent. This display boost and other engine parameters.
Finally you must be prepared for some high parts prices that woud make ///M5 ownership look inexpensive. The US distributor for ALPINA charges almost $500 for a set of the correct front rotors. So the only way to avoid KSK and their ripoff prices is to deal directly with one of the German ALPINA dealerships.
About the price this example is worth. Providing everything is in place and functions, I'd say $15k tops considering the missing items and damage.

If we were comparing an Alpina B9 to a Hartge H5s, I would totally agree with you as far as the price being 7-10k, but the rarity of a B7 turbo with 300hp, I would say that it is a little more car than an H5s. One man's opinion and I rarely disagree with you but I have
seen B7s fetch well over 20k. There is a 1979 B7 for sale in Roudel for 26k. I don't know
if it is an e12 or e24, but I was offered a 1981 B7S for that same number. THere was an
e24 B7 that sold last year for over 22k with similar mileage. My .02 for what ever it's worth.

Good point Ron. I wasn't thinking about the factory Turbo part of the B7. I would say, be sure that all of it is in great working order since it would be pretty $$$$$ to replace that stuff with original Alpina stuff.
