If you are talking about the one with over 200k on it, then the mileage really tells the
whole story about why no one will bid on the car. A bolt in rebuild will run 5-7 grand and now you will have a 200k mile car with a new motor for 14k!!!! Why not buy one with
mileage in the low one hundreds or lower for an extra thousand? I hope that answers
your question. The car is really worth about three thousand.

This is a Southampton Imports car. I bought a 528e off of them in 2000, and he usually has at least one E28 on the lot.

Colin's the manager, and he and his brother run the place...and his father's involved a bit, too (I think).

They don't sell junk. Back in the old Roadfly days, many guys from Philly/NJ would recommend his shop for repairs, including me. I've never heard a bad word about them.

They used to sell warranties as part of that Cars, Inc. warranty company. The warranty was so cheap I bought one. I never had to use it though.

So here's an idea -- just buy one of those warranties. If the engine goes, it'd be kinda cool watching Cars, Inc. crap their britches after receiving the engine replacement bill.

Call him -- he's a likable, straight-shooter.

My humble .02

Ron,

What are the chances this engine has gone 211K without a rebuild?
I thought he would at least have had to do the timing components by then.

Where's the best place to read about M5 engine issues and rebuilds? Specifcally, what goes wrong, what wears out, how long do they last and what is involved in the typical rebuild (for the home mechanic).

Thanks.

Mine has 200K on it and I wouldn't dream of selling it for 7000. I would say there is a near certainty that the timing components have been replaced.hmmm may have to check this one out....;)
