WBSDC9301J2875031 has been listed for sale and this is a good example of the E28 M5. This car has the OEM Pioneer KE-81ZBM-02 anti-theft stereo casette radio with joystick control. Its also interesting to note that this car had just 30,234 in 10/23/2000 before the owner decided to use the car. This otherwise would have been among the lowest mileage examples known to exist at the time. It now has 121,XXX miles.

Bavarian Workshop did complete the mechanical work on this car and the price has been already been lowered to $34,990. However, it is still advertised an M5: http://enthusiastauto.com/qsearch/?id=6 ... display=51

At what point would you (and I mean anyone on the board) consider purchasing this car?

When the price was in line with any other very nice S38 converted E28 535is. Probably closer to $25k.

That's pretty much where I'm at too. Although I don't have the spare $25k right now. D'oh!

E28 535is/M5

Post by EAG »

In response to those that have posted on my E28 for sale; I have updated the ad for this very special vehicle. The car is the real deal, built by Marc Norris at Bavarian Workshop. No expense was spared in the $100K+ spent (all receipts included). It pains me to sell, but I have some other BMW's to add to the stable and only so much room.

It isn't an M5, but it is a very nice car for sure.

No one said the work wasn't done or that it isn't excellent; only that the car isn't an M5. The VIN reveals it as a DC74 US-spec "535i" (which would include the 535is), not a DC93 US-spec M5 nor a DC91 Euro-spec M5. The other thing it isn't is a Euro-spec M535i, which would have an M30 engine. Whether adding all the correct parts to a car (at great expense) makes it the model you've copied is open to debate. Given the number of original M5s that were built, I suspect that most people would agree that this is not an M5; only a very well-executed clone of one.

"535is" is included in the first line of the description.

Any serious buyer will recognize what this vehicle is, especially after they read the articles about the build.

Sorry if there was any confusion.

Yes, 535is is in the first line, but so is M5. If it's not an M5 (which it is not), why even throw that in there unless it's to say that it happens to have the same motor as an M5? And yes, people around here recognize what your car is and is not (even though most are not prepared to lay down that kind of $$ for it); the problem is that one little part of the description seems to be saying the car is something it is not, and appears to be an attempt at some level of deception.

Nice car, BTW.

Thank you. It is a blast to drive, makes great noises and turns quite a few heads when at our facility full of fun BMW's.

At least you aren't like that guy on eBay trying to sell a car as an M535i (first as the "first M5" and now as the "first M535i") despite the fact that the VIN tag clearly states that it is a 528i.
