Pics of the 1985 euro M5 * Formally known as Wallace *
All I had time to do was a quick wash. Interior/trunk/engine pics will be a day or two. All in all the car is nice. It does have some things that need to be addressed but any 20 year old car will. Engine runs nice & strong, trans is tight but needs all new shift bushings. It has Autothority software, but I will need to replace with stock to possibly even think about getting it through emissions.
Both front and rear bumper rubber will be replaced, eliminating the side marker lamps put in during fed.
Will be repelacing some parts of the euro bumpers also as there are some dents. I also have a set of headlight wipers that I will be installing shortly.
Anyhow, there it is. More pics over the next few days.

Tony,
I have to admit to a spark of jealousy, I really like your "new" car alot. Frankly, you already have one of the best wheels available for the car, no one with 17's will outhandle your car once shod with one of the latest tires, even a Yoko AVS Sport on a 16 inch wheel is hard to beat for handling and traction.
You may have one of the best e28['s in North America there.

Pat, car has Potenza S-03 on it, so can't get a whole lot better than that.
As far as any add-ons.....on the outside the only thing I will be adding is factory M-tech wheels flares. Possibly wheels.
Interior is gonna get worked, more on that later.
As far as nicest E28 in the US, NO WAY!!!!! Ron's M5 is WAY nicer than mine and I can think of at least 5-6 non-///M E28's that are nicer. Mine is just rare, that's all.

Hey Tony. Wallace is a Beutiful ride man.I know the car is baged corretly but what if you pulled the M5 badges and made it a sleeper.Less chance of it being stolen and more fun looking at the dropped chins when you blow them away.Congrats on all that has happened in your life this year and enjoy the new found toy.Hope to see Wallace at 5er fest Tony. Ted in T.O.
Oh crap, there goes the value!
Nope, the M-tech flares could be added as an option. What I have a problem with is mods like Raj suggested, monster flares like you'd see on some sort of racing beast to allow monster wide rims/tires. In fact if you look closely at Ron P's Euro M5, IIRC, he has M-tech flares and they look very nice.
Tony's first challenge is to get the beast through Az emissions which is probably as tough as they have anywhere in the country.

Tony's seller is the world's WORST copywriter. I almost called about that car, and was ready to buy.
His copy on Roadfly made the car sound beat, so I never took action. I decided to go the '02 route instead.
I was an advertising copywriter for 7 years. I should've known better than to let an ad's copy affect my decision-making!!!!
Rich (currently pounding his head on his computer desk over the pictures)

Don't take this the wrong way, but I never got "badge engineering," either for upgrade as in the fake ///Ms, or for a "stealth" downgrade. The way I see it is,
-Anyone who knows enough to know what the badge means knows what your car is regardless.
-Anyone who is ignorant enough to be fooled wouldn't give a shit!
I know one guy with a monster E36 M3 badged as a 316tds, and another with an M50-powered 318is that's badged as a 316i. Those cars weren't even available here, and given the wheels/tires/stance of those two particular cars, not to mention the exhaust notes, no one would believe for a second that either are powered by dinky 4-cyls and diesels. Debadging is one thing, especially if you like the "clean" look. And fabbing up a more accurate badge (like 545is) to represent mods is cool, but slapping some random badge on to try to fool people is kinda lame. Your car is rare and beautiful, don't sully it.
Just one man's opinion.

'87 535is, badged
ex-'94 325iC, debadged
'85 GTI 8V, the beater ... who cares what it says?
Guess it all comes down to personal tastes. To me, the M-tech flares look too tacked on in appearance. But the E28 flares by far look better than the ones for an M6...Rich Euro M5 wrote:In fact if you look closely at Ron P's Euro M5, IIRC, he has M-tech flares and they look very nice.
When it comes time to repaint my car I'll probably have a little fun and enlarge the factory flares a teeny bit with steel to keep a cleaner look. I agree the very large euro-trash flares to accommodate 10-12 inch tires look well, retarded.
But Anyway Tony looks to have a very cool M5, Cirrus Blau is quite the color for a sleeper M5! If it had Llama beige interior that would be too cool.
Thanks!Justin_FL wrote:Guess it all comes down to personal tastes. To me, the M-tech flares look too tacked on in appearance. But the E28 flares by far look better than the ones for an M6...

The car is actually Fjord Blue, not cirrus.
If it had Llama interior, I would shoot myself.

Tammer,
Badge engineering as it's applied in Europe, especially Germany isn't done for the same reasons as here in the States. In Germany it's primarily to prevent some Green (Environmental Nutjobs) from vandalizing your car while it's parked. The secondary reason is the same as the US, creating confusion, get people wondering how they just got dusted by a 518i, and in some cases it can also be done as a theft deterrent.
In the case of my Euro M5, most people don't know what the car is, even BMW enthusiests. Guys well versed in the E28 will know it's a Euro but not much more unless they know the subtle queues. E28 BMW enthusiests can typically identify a US M5 even if it's not properly badged. Not so, with a Euro M5. Even if you debadged a US M5, you take one look inside the interior and you know it's an M5 because of the leather everywhere and the ///M slashes on the seats, stuff like that. A Euro M5 interior is very subdued by comparison, far less leather, but more than the typical E28. No ///M badges on the seats. Only the Tach face and Steering wheel give you any idea what you're looking at.
My M5 was debadged/despoilered when delivered from the factory and may stay that way. If I choose to badge it as a lesser 5er, it's to fool the knowledgable E28 guy into thinking he's looking at a nice clean Euro 5er, not an M5. As they say in Britain about the BMW M5, "The Ultimate Q-Ship"
