What model e28 is the best for the import scene/ which is the fastest with the most upgrades avaliable??
As long as you don't try to "look" like the import scene, you'll be OK. You know....the ones with the giant wings, oversized ground effects, tacky decal graphics, neon, wild paint, shaved door handles, NAAAAWWWWSSSSS and the ever present a-pillar pod cluster. :p

Definitely the 524td. You'll SMOKE everyone. Literally.
If you want to REALLY be the fastest, you have GOT to have a spoiler like mine. . .

GreddyPlayer,
Don't listen to that DukeM535Ti guy, he's just a blowhard loudmouth and always spouts off like this.
Here's a picture of his double knotted rubber band.

All Duke has done is double knotted the rubberband when he winds it up. This basically doubles, might even triple, the available torque when it starts to unwind. That would be a 1985 M535i with a M106/Hartge/TCD-s2 turboed engine.

the ever present a-pillar pod cluster
Hey now -- I got one of them -- and I'm looking for a 3 pod one. It's not for looks, it's just that it puts the gauges right there at eye level with the road... having the boost gauge down by your shifter is quite dangerous.

I don't think these types of cars are going to be the kind of cars that today's "importers" are gonna be like "OH SHIT LOOK AT THAT" -- these cars have a certain style and charisma that ricers just don't have.
Yet I do admit, I have been able to roll up to a few of my car friends back when I lived in Charlotte and impress a few BMW owners.... otherwise, nobody flinches.
Without a doubt the best e28 to buy and tune is a US Spec 535i or 535is. These models with a properly tuned turbo kit will destroy any previous "tuner" car. The Alpina B7S in it's most powerful form only made 335hp. That's not much by todays turbo e28 standards. M5s are a waste of time unless you are happy with them in a near stock form. They are cost prohibitive to upgrade and yield relatively poor results per $$$.

If you have the budget for it, look for a clean '85 - '88 535i/is. You should consider paying the extra dollars for a well sorted example, otherwise the $2000 rule applies if you buy a lesser example. The $2000 rule is the average cost to replace limited life components and have other repairs performed, less wheels and tires or other significant performance upgrades.
Once you have your 5er, contact TCD and he'll set you up with what you need to really woop a$$$ on the Riceboys.
If you want a Hargte, ALPINA or M5, plan on your acquisition budget to be in the $7k to $15K range depending on condition and what you buy.
