Possible Euro 524td?

Post by packman21 »

I'm taking a hard look at this possible Euro 524td that is about 10 minutes away from me. Talked to the old man yesterday and I will be going to look at it in person since the pics are so shitty. He says there's a knock in the motor but that it runs. He bought the car bc he thought it was a 3.0 litre to run out at the salt flats but since he found out that it is not, he is going a different route. I am highly interested in the front and rear bumpers as they seem to be Euro's. I've never seen a Euro 524td and I don't think this one is except for the bumpers. Can any of you confirm from these pics?

Euro bumpers but I cant tell if it is the Euro front airdam. Appears to be smashed up.

Crappiest pictures ever.

I will be in the Ogden area this summer sourcing chasiss for a E36 track car build, M30 drag car build, and yanking a 1UZFE out of a Lexus LS400 for another project.

Do you go to Miller at all?

I hope the seller plans to use the proceeds from this sale on a new camera & photography lessons. I've seen some awful pics in ads before, but this is a hoe nutha lebbel.

From this photo it does look like euro bumpers; my guess is that they'd be original. I've seen a couple gray market imported tds, but haven't seen anybody that's done a bumper conversion on one. (I'm sure someone will produce an example to prove me wrong. ;) )

This picture leads me to believe that the euro stuff is original:

That looks like it was added to pass the DOT side marker regs.

I do go to Miller but I do not race. Buddy of mine used to but we still go to the races. Hit me up when you're out here.

Haha! The guy honestly sounds like he's 80. Says he took it with his camera phone but damn. They are bad indeed.
Thanks for the notes so far guys. I may go look at the car tomorrow or this weekend and if all good throw him an offer. Especially if anyone here is interested in any parts from this bad boy. I will see how good of shape the bumpers are of course.

Judging from the bumpers, cluster, and charge piping, I'd say its a Euro.

I went and looked at the car today. It's in better shape than I thought. It also had some sweet looking manual sports, a/c works, shifts great. There is a knock on the top of the motor, wondering if this is common and just needs an adjustment? Both front and rear euro bumpers look to be in good shape. The front valance is dinged and would probably need to be replaced if you were to put these bumpers on another car. This might be a hard car to part out since it runs and most everything is there. Thought I would post some pics and see what you guys think. He wouldn't budge much on the price. Lowered it to $600 with battery or $550 without. Think it's worth picking up, parting out what I can then scrapping the car?

Took some pics with my cell phone.

Interesting. No EGR system.

The body looks like it's hiding quite a bit of rust.

Still interested in parts if you go that route.

It's too bad you aren't closer. Get it to Rockford, il and I'll give you $1250 for it.

Or if you part it, I'll be interested in the euro bumpers.

Ya, it's very tempting for me to pick up. First thing I'd probably do is take the bumpers off and part those bad boys out or possibly keep them for myself unless I had an offer I couldn't refuse. Looks like some bumpers on here fetch $500-700 with dents and some rust. These look good on the outside, I did feel behind them with my hand and didn't feel any rust. If I had someone interested in buying the motor, trans, etc. pretty quick then I may just pick it up. I really liked the seats.
