Got the head back on today. But only after seeing that the exhaust manifold bolts on my new head are m8x1.25 and my 745 studs are m10x1.5.
So after going to every part place within 20 miles I decided to drill and tap the holes.
Now I had to find the right bit.
Took two hours to find he right bit and had all 12 holes done just over an hour.
Although we have more daylight, the sun set quick.
I was able to get the intake back on and got 11of12 bolts tight.
That last lower bolt is only finger tight.
I was able to press the head up and in the engine bay with the exhaust manifold and the wastegate perch on it.
That was major.
After scoping it out for about twenty minutes, I went for it and landed it clean........
It sucks that I spent a good portion of the day looking for stuff.
Between looking for studs, looking for the right bit and tapping the holes, I lost about 4 hours today.........

So if I compare the way the car is running now at 10psi to were it was before and 10psi, I have to say its a straight pig.
Its slow, spool up is much slower.
I don't know what the hell is going on.
Whats the chance its my valve adjustment. I'm no master but that's one thing I feel I can do well.
I did .009 on the cam side. I does sound a little quieter but I can still hear the mechanics.
There's no way its this sluggish just because of the different cam b34 now, b35 then.
The car has no spunk anymore.

Dude, you know my experience with timing, and while you may be correct, I check and check and check 7 more times before I buttoned it back up.Kyle in NO wrote:Cam timing is off.
I hear that one tooth is not too bad, so I would have to be off by at least two teeth, and I don't think thats so....
But I will check.

If your AFR hasn't changed and you have good compression I don't know what else to tell you. A compression test will indicate an issue with the valve adjustment or valve sealing. It could be a boost leak or a leaky exhaust manifold as well.
You turned the boost down to 10 psi. It might just be in your head since you were used to running more. If the engine is making a certain amount of boost at a certain AFR its going to be making a certain amount of power assuming nothing has happened to affect the ignition timing. IIRC you're running Motronic with a TCD chip, so I can't imagine what could be pulling timing.

I just had the head pressure tested and it check out perfectly.turbodan wrote:If your AFR hasn't changed and you have good compression I don't know what else to tell you. AFR's have not changed.
The boost gauge goes to 10psi, but its like it does want to.
It feels like I'm pulling an anchor.
I can clearly remember the boost spooling even when I was at 10psi. That's the reason I stopped listening to the radio.
Seriously, its slower off the line now than it was when it was a stock 535is.
Something is wrong....
I'll check the valves lash tomorrow, again. I have to grab my compression testing goodies from storage, I knew there was something else I needed to get the last time I was there.....

I thought of that but I also thought that I wouldn't get any boost if it was struck open.T_C_D wrote:Wastegate stuck open?grey ghost wrote:I just had the head pressure tested and it check out perfectly.turbodan wrote:If your AFR hasn't changed and you have good compression I don't know what else to tell you. That would definitely explain the lack of spool sound.

Overboosted and cracked the head, blew the hg.
replaced the head with a stock head, 12psi, probably still too much.
waiting to find an upgraded k27 for sale.
I would love to buy a new one from TCD, but its a little too steep for me right now.
Car is running pretty good.
Once I score an upgraded k27, I'll go ahead and build another head, maybe with a bigger cam, or just the b35 like before.
I also plan on a FMIC and maybe moving the throttle body to the other side of the intake.
All dreams at the moment......

The fat girl
Maybe we can nudge Todd to do a two guy group buy for us. I need to find some shit to sell
With a FMIC the fat girl is going to love Boston in the winter!
Hope you're well!

Yeah, my car loves the cool weather, I can feel it already with these 50degree mornings up here in western MA.mpowertech wrote:Maybe we can nudge Todd to do a two guy group buy for us. I need to find some shit to sell

As for Todd, I'm not sure there's wiggle room in there.... and if there is, I'm sure its still a little steep......
But I hear the upgraded k27 is extremely nice....... do want
I've already picked out a big whopping FMIC, need to take the front end apart and do some measuring...
There's goingt o be some fab going on down there....
