If they can pull like a freight train in a lard-ass E60 or F10...I can only imagine how an N54-swapped E28 would do. It would be a much more, um, interesting experience for you as well (which is what you mentioned earlier)
I'd already discounted the N54, but saw this today and thought it was funny.

Has anyone mentioned a flat plane ls swap with weber carbs? Metric and would sound like a Ferrari. Lingenfelter and a few others have done it, with fuel injection.

Not exactly.

Doing my daily eBay check for low-mileage 6-speed S54s and I think I found what I was looking for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M3-E46-S54- ... 9f&vxp=mtr

Cool! Now all you need is a complete 3D model of an e28 to go with it.

Few of mine with the new interior I had done this spring. I used OEM cloth as it gets hot in the summer in the south using leather.

I hate agreeing with @leadphut, but in this case I have no choice.

Rich, why vynil/leather on the sides? Why not cloth all the way around?

The original cloth seats have vinyl/leather on the sides so that is why I went back with it.

Gotcha. I actually never really paid much attention before. Now that I'm thinking about making real decisions, I'm noticing.

This morning I met my interior guy. Matt at All City Convertibles and Customs in Kirkland, WA.

I heard about Matt from my friend who restored this amazing 88 911 last year (which is now for sale for $123k).

I took Vlad and used it and various photos to explain to Matt my vision. I'm still not 100% certain of colors. I've gotten strong opinions from a dozen people who have far more experience doing this stuff than I, and they do not all agree. Since I've seen Matt's work in person (now on several cars) I have complete confidence that he has the experience and is capable of advising me and delivering the workmanship I require.

I showed Matt examples of other E28s with extensive leather work (mostly pointing out details that I would not be happy with) and we talked through his techniques for dealing with all of them. We talked about several details that will be unique that I'm pretty excited about. We looked at dozens of material samples (leather, cloth, headliner, etc...) and while I still am not 100% sure about colors, I am pretty settled leather texture and what will be leather and what will be cloth. I even have a clear picture now of what the upper bound on cost will be, so I can set a budget.

I'm still many months away from having to commit to any color choices, but it's nice to know who will do the work and what it will cost. Part of the color dilemma is I haven't even decided what color I want the exterior to be...
