Wet dirt is heavy.
We've been in need of a few yards of dirt to build up the stalls and paddock. Search Craigslist and you can find ads for free dirt-just pay gas. That translates to ~$200 it seems, so I've been watching for free to pick up.
I found a guy nearby that had just dug a pool and ended up taking about 10 yards of what he had, shoveled by hand into and out of the truck. Even being careful to avoid filling the bed completely, the tires looked a little flat, but the truck was fine with the weight.
I had William helping and had the 21 year old working hard to keep up. It really felt good to show up the kid since I'll be hitting fifty in a couple of months. The big surprise is that my back is stiff but pain free.

I'm stoked. The last part of my long range rifle build shipped today after weeks of waiting. Maybe next weekend I can put it all together. By summers end I want to be stretching the .308 out to the thousand mark in preparation for my long range precision rifle class in the fall.

(sigh) hope to be there with you soon. I'm starting from scratch, and just building an AR.

Can't go wrong with the AR. It is capable of so many things. I am planning on sending my barreled action for my 700 out to be threaded for a brake/suppressor adapter and a re-crown job. I just hate waiting for stuff like that as I am such a DIY kind of person. This is one of those jobs though that is best left to the experts so I must pay and wait.

The guy across the street just put his house up for sale. I looked up the asking price. Either he's delusional or I'm rich. I fear the former, not the latter.

Thrashed the m20 well into redline on multiple occasions this morning on the way to Cars and Coffee. It pulled hard even though it probabably has no coolant and the oil looks like coffee. Even passed some douchebag in a diesel Dodge when in the grass before an on-ramp. Fuck him for cutting me off.
It was a GOOD day!

Reminds me of the days I used to use turnouts for passing.
In a 60HP car that stuck like glue.

slow car fast and all that is fun!
but fast(or err not slow and LOUD) car fast is funNER!!
jerk in a prius taking up too much of parking lot lane, horn didnt work.. but loud as f stebro race exhaust, stahl headers, a little slip of the clutch, and burned rubber proved my point.
i should fix that horn ring. for the sake of my tires.. and diff.. and trans.. and engine...
OTOH, stoked about getting some e34 15" weaves tomorrow, and trading my tcd intake for a stock airbox for a legit price from a fellow bay area e28'er!! anyone that understands the pleasure of an e28 is a-OK in my book!

Well, I was only able to get six of those magpul AR mags. That's still 180 rounds... Hmmm
In other news, after a hiatus of an entire decade, I'm at the rifle range again. It's not required for my rank, but I had no idea how the new weapons worked, and that's a damn shame for someone who is a "Rifleman First".
Last time I shot, it was an m16a2 with iron sights, and I was, more often than not, an Expert Rifleman.
NOW, I'm shooting an m4 with a collapsible stock and a 4x ACOG scope.
Several Marines had opined that if I was an expert with iron sights, the ACOG would really mess up my game, etc.
Apparently, it's more like riding a bike, for me. It almost feels like cheating with the scope, but the awesome upside is that I don't need my glasses to shoot. Out of the box, I shot very well. Certainly well enough to qualify expert. I'm not as limber as I used to be, so moving from position to position is mildly painful, but the actual positions are apparently pretty solid.
Plus, Yuma in March is exquisitely beautiful for shooting. I'm glad that the range isn't crowded, but the weather will not hold out more than a couple more weeks, MAYBE a month. Then it's back to baking at the range for the rest of the Marines...

I'm eating applesauce.
(Actually, I just clicked on this thread to post the above statement and doing so, the swift movement of my hand from the mouse to the keyboard knocked the applesauce off my desk thus bouncing it off my leg and landing it all over my fucking floor at work. Awesome. )
