You would get way more power with slight modification (north of 450 HP), Also the car wouldn’t be nose heavy eighther.
So how much heavier than an S38 is an S70?

Here is a clue....It's a trick question!

Only teasing. ;)

You sure about that?

If it were he wouldn't have posted that it was 5000cc.
It also does not appear to have the S70 injection rail cover.

Apart from that, I don't know how you could possibly tell if it was an S70 by looking at it.
My Bag....Not long woke up! Just checked on Mats facebook page.

5L M70 with S70 sound absorption cover hence why I thought it was the S70 ;)

It is not like hundreds of Lbs. but in racing application every little LB counts, see bellow, about 30 to 40 Lbs. heavier.

http://www.bimmerforums.com/engine_faq.php

There are many factors in to placing the engine in side the engine bay in race application in order for right weight distribution, with S54, and basically M30 base block engines you could set it as far back as you could because of the physical shape of the engine but with bigger size engine you are limited unless you are welling and have the ability to start cutting up and reshaping the engine bay area to accommodate which I am sure Mats can achieve that. So for that reason the car might be a little heavy at the front end. That's all I am saying other then the Power factor.

Thanks guys for the inspiration ,and all the good ideas :D .

Its kind of a tease really, the engine is for my 6 speed E31 850i, since i blew the past M70 in that car, I got another one that I totally took apart, replacing more or less every single part, and to give it some boost as well with some mods.
The post of wkohler saying the intakes are painted and nothing more, well its a slight understatement, but i guess you other guys understand that since you know my past  .

The engine itself is not easy to make powerful, since its a crap design from the beginning (includes the S70 since its same crap engine, just bigger bore), and only has 8.8kg in compression.
But it will do the job going to the ice cream bar in summertime in the coupé :alright: .

The M5 CSL is still for sale, and as it seems at this point, it will be going to Italy, to compete in a Group 5 series with other "wide tire cars".

Sorry to get your hopes up, but when the CSL was standing behind the M70 engine, i just couldnt help myself snapping that shot

Here is a pic of the cars during a workshop cleaning this weekend...

But hey, just because the CSL will be leaving, it doesnt mean I wont do any magic to E28´s, I just bought Four different E28´s, and will do some good with them starting late 2012...

I was making a joke. I apologize. Didn't mean for it to come across negatively. Always enjoy seeing your work.

Even though the slick tyres are a bit wide, they seem to loose grip when all the power is transferred to them

Thanks! Yes they are actually really sharp and good for being taken from a long distance during full race tempo.

Heres a picture from a photo and video shoot this weekend.

It really shows that the race season is coming up, a lot of interested buyers have contacted us and we beleive the sale will take place in a near future. Lets hope it will end up in a good new ownership.

^^^Fantastic.
Loving the superb sounds of the S38 especially in that outstanding E28 CSL body!

Perfect combination

Best of luck with the sale and I hope it goes to someone that truly appreciates the craftsmanship behind the final product.

Late with the updates here...

Car is now sold, and will go to a collector who will put the car to rest and have it as a jewelry...

Well, if it will ever meet the tarmac again, he promised to let me know so I can drive it for him, sounds like the right buyer anyway...

It will stay in Sweden, although the potential buyers was from Japan, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Norway.

I am currently preparing parts and time for a Zinnoberrot M5 E28 Euro style with Lotos White sport leather, but before that I will make a E28 Pickup truck, so there no rest in the workshop yet

Will post some pics in a separate thread once I have got something to show.

No, they are sold with the car. But i would guess it wouldnt be impossible to rent/borrow them if my inspiration came back for a new CSL...

I'm sad to hear it will sit in a garage, I think that car was built to be raced, and should be until fuel supplies dry up world wide.

Oh well.

It's cool to hear you still have projects in mind to work on, I look forward to seeing the results!

My buddy with an E30 told me about this build, and sure enough, it's incredible. Sorry to see it was sold! What an incredible car you built. Are you building anything new?
