Ditto. I leave my battery cables off while in storage. No problem.

23 is cold, but not super cold, and the two weeks should not be a problem for a good battery if you don't have excessive drains. I like to see under 10ma. Below 20 isn't too bad, but not great. I've seen some places suggest under 50 is ok, but not IMO. That's with a good battery, not a 2 week old super duper top of the line. More like a 3 year old Walmart one.

I agree that two weeks shouldn't be enough to run down the battery.

For longer periods simply disconnecting the battery and not using a trickle charger should be fine, in fact it will discharge more slowly in cold weather. I just put my car away for the winter today, and all I do is disconnect the battery and leave it until spring.

I didn’t drive the E39 M5 since November 5th. Fired right up. That car is just one big electrical drain. Bigger battery though. I’d check into it further.

I have a question about diffs. Did you give any thought to changing the differnatal on your car? Maybe to a 3.46,3.64, or 3.73?

Not really. It seems pretty perfect as-is with the S3.23.

The adventure in Utah just got real.

I got in the car to drive it yesterday since it was nice out. As is often the case, my phone was in my left front pocket when I got in. I pressed my left foot against the dead pedal to straighten my leg so I could get my phone out.

Team, we have a mystery. The above pic was taken April 23, 2013. These are the bits I ordered way back when I first did Vlad's suspension. @adalbenas noticed the H&R part number on those spring is 50413.

ECS goes as far as explicitly saying they won't fit:


Here's a copy of the email receipt from April 16, 2013 where I ordered these (from Turner).


I do not recall my installer (I was not smart enough back then to install suspension components myself) having an issue with them, or us returning them for the E28 springs.

But THIS picture, which I took when I detailed the under-carriage back in August 2015, says differently (50428 is installed).

Anyway, @adalbenas, the real answer is "I love the H&R + BIlly Sport setup on Vlad, and the springs currently on the car are 50428, not 50413. I can't tell you how I took a picture of 50413s back in 2013.

Your photo shows the front springs uninstalled and the rear springs installed on the car. Rear springs in the uninstalled photo have the same part number. Mystery solved.

I had looked at the stock photo on the ECS and the PNs matched front to rear/so I just ASSumed mine matched too.

What this means, I guess, is:

- Turner sent me E34 rear shocks when I ordered the E28 set back in 2013
- The E34 rears (50413) fit an E28 just fine. Oh, and they provide a perfect ride-height with BIlly Sports and more importantly ride fantastically.

I'm guessing the E34 FRONT's would not fit at all.

But what about how the 50413 (E34) and 50428 (E28) rear shocks are actually different (or not)? Does anyone know? I can't find any details on the H&R website.

The rear springs unistalled and installed have 50428 per your photos, but have you any pics of your front springs installed or checked it in person to see if they match 50413 or if they magically changed in the shop to 50428?

I just bought a set of the same springs, and it contains 50428 rears and 50413 fronts as well.

Yesterday I was able to finally get access to a welder. I had to pull the seat in the parking garage of my apartment building, throw it in the back of the Q7 and go to a co-worker's house to fix. I'm not proud of the weld, but it will hold. I have three more E34 sport seat bases in Bellevue, and if I ever get the motivation I may tear this one down and re-build it based on one of those. For now, Vlad is back on the road making me grin ear to ear.

Where the bracket sheared. The seat mfg clearly missed on this weld.


Never used flux-core before. Works well.

On Friday a co-worker clued me into a Utah Ferarri & Exotics Club meet & drive on Saturday. The club is low-key and does not widely advertise these drives. I was going to be staying in SLC over the weekend and Julie was in SEA, so...

I showed up to "Sheels" looking for the "Starbucks in the parking lot". First, it's Scheels. Second, the Starbucks closed in 2016. Third, I was over-anxious and got there too early.



The good news is Vlad looks marvelous. The ceramic treatment is amazeballs. I've actually not washed the car since I had it done, but after driving one day (yes only one) in the rain I did have to do a light spray wax (Final Inspection) wipedown.


Vlad was a hit, especially with the teenagers that showed up. Sure they ooh'd and ahh'd over the McClaren and Ariel, but three of them surrounded me talking about their E30 projects. Tee-hee.

I have to say this thing sounded bad-ass.






This is my co-worker's 72 Alfa 2000. Simply cool.




IMO, by far, the most exotic exotic that showed up. Icon Bronco.


The organizer is the caretaker of this beast. This is the Enzo that broke the land-speed record for a production car at 237mph. Twin trubo. https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cultur ... -the-enzo/


The drive was relatively short (up 80 through Park City, down to Haber on 32, and back to Park City on SR40), but totally fun. Vlad did fine playing with all the supercars on the freeway. Windows down so I could hear their roar. The yellow Viper (V10) sounded like total ass though.

The rabbit/camera car (a Challenger) got pulled over and the passenger got a ticket for no seatbelt. He was hanging out the sunroof when we went by the trooper at about 90. Pretty funny that he got pulled over, but the Enzo didn't.




In the past few weeks Vlad's idle has climbed to 1000-1200. I did all the standard diagnostics but could not find the problem (TPS adjustment, obvious vacuum leaks from boot, ...).


Finally pulled the ICV and gave it a good cleaning. Fixed.

Yesterday I hit the Utah DMV to get the title swtiched to Utah and get Utah historic vehcile plates (I got E28) and parked next to this like-minded dude.


Now that the snow is gone, Vlad is back to DD status. Woot.

Rain rain, go away. Bead away, another day.

what brand coating does it have? im considering having my friends shop do my new daily or he'd probably rent me the bottle to do it myself. which is like 250 bucks for 8oz of the stuff.

I submitted E28, VLAD, and ZINNO to the DMV, in that order. The lady told me I'd get E28.

Apparently something in the machine changed.

I like it and that’s what I’m planning for 2020 when I convert the e28 over to classic plates here in MN.

Anyone remember what license plate mount I used? I don't. Need to order same for Minerva.
