Les Schwab says they can't repair them. My wheel/suspension guy (Bryon at Tru-Line) says he thinks he can and it's worth a shot. I agree since my only other real alternative is to get new wheels!

I was able to get it in the garage with the help of the space saver spare. It was a bit nerve-racking inflating it since it's never been inflated...and is 30 years old. But it worked fine and looks great.





But the whole ordeal has given me an excuse to fix a bunch of little things and do some Spring detailing.

That's impressive for those spares. Mine was already destroyed, presumably by someone who actually tried to use it.

Mine came with 7 & 8 x 16 from new (or dealer installed), so I was able to go with the normal 205/55, 225/50 16 size.

I'm sure you'll go with something a little more interesting.

Such a nice example. I know you have a lift, but a scissor lift is great for a 911.

Just like my lovemaking, my wrenching is fast, noisy and sloppy. And sometimes it involves lots of specialty tools.
4 small bolts and pull out the electric fan and shroud. Release belt tension and toss belt on floor. Pump cover off and then five bolts gave birth to an original Chrysler product. Hose clamps released and my bare feet got a little slimy shower. Spent a good bit of time scraping old gasket but it's a one handed job, much like the rest of my life, and I could nurse my beer. New pump cross torqued to spec, whatever the hell that may have been and BAM, time for a victory lap. I made our dinner guests perform that while I showered and we wouldn't miss the opening act of the opera.

I don't know that I'd trust a repair that far down on the sidewall. It may hold air but you can't tell what damage has been done to the sidewall plies or the edge of the tread belts. You and your Porsche are not worth risking on a questionable tire repair.

Put 120 miles on the 93 Toyota Pickup 4x4 yesterday and drove it to work today. I purchased the truck from a coworker for $500 and I've put another $1000 or so base lining, replacing rusted hard lines, etc. It's loud and slow and the suspension could be described as "agricultural". I'm kind of in love with it. Now that the beater truck is up and operating I also put my x5 at the end of the driveway with a 4 sail sign in the window. Although the truck seems like a leap back in refinement, its a step forward for my mental state.

I'm going to run the e28 seasonally and rely on the truck the rest of the time. Plus the e32 is always in my back pocket. I'm right there with you on the money spent versus use, I hope the next owner understands and appreciates what they're getting. Personally though, I've just come to grips with the reality that what was spent on the x5 is gone and to move on with life.

Dropped wheel/tire off at Tru-Line today. Byron later called to say 'no go'. Can't be safely fixed.

A this point, my only choice are non-DOT approved tires. This sucks.

Porsche says the P7 Cintaurato are supposed to be available in my size, but Pirelli's website disagrees.

Sorry that one can't be fixed, CEK. Are your current wheels staggered front to back?

I started the Integra today, and let it warm up. God, I want rid of that POS. I bought it a year ago for a work beater (89 Integra LS hatch, 5sp), and after I did a tune-up I put 25,000 miles on it. I grenaded (the pressure plate literally went to pieces) the clutch 2 days before I finished putting the 'new to me' M42 and Getrag 245, Bilstein HD's, and all new front suspension components in my E30 318is.

I put a new clutch in the Integra a month ago, and now I *really* hate FWD Hondas. It's almost too bad how well that POS runs though, damn thing runs like a scalded dog! The kids I bought it from did some 'performance mods' to the thing; stainless headers, billet underdrive pulley, MSD ingnition, etc.

I suppose if I really want to sell the damn thing, I need to put a new windshield in it (won't pass WV inspection as it is), and replace the broken pass. side outside door handle. Fuck the timing belt, I'm not spending any more money on that damn car, I've got 2 BMW's I'd far and away rather spend money on. I might get a gallon of Rustoleum red and some thinner and paint the fucker, it's in primer red right now...

If I had room for it (my wife and I live in town and we've got very little parking room), I'd do the timing belt, put new struts on it, and keep it for a winter beater work car.

Brought home a 10' 2X4 in the ultimate commuting machine today.(E36) And closed the trunk. It was a little tight going over the armrest but I had several inches to spare once I got it into the footwell. Not the capacity of an E28 like when I hauled engines or wicker yard furniture, but not bad for a little (inside) car. E21s for all their failings were much roomier, albeit no folding back seat. Oh well, no car is perfect.

Went to the yard and grabbed a set of roof rails plus trim pieces for the 850 wagon (slicktop base model so receivers for the bolts are hidden under the existing trim). Pried off all the old junk, bolted in the rails and added the trim, then bolted on the (NIB) Thule crossbars that came free with the car. Wagon is now kayak/canoe-ready. Not bad for $30 and maybe an hour's worth of work.

LCAB mounts on the chassis were stripped on the E46. We had to helicoil it, was no fun.

Sanded & painted the center console to get rid of some cig burns the P/O left behind, in the not-a-BMW.

I don't know what kind of car it is, but I like the eject option. Great way to get rid of an annoying passenger.

Hello guys-
Been awhile since I've posted here. Busy with work and life. Some updates to the e34:

Swapped out the delicate Getrag and shaft for the more robust ZF unit. ( many thanks to Mr Kohler )

Re-lamped all the lights and went with clear lenses for a fresher look. ( of course I kept all the US ambers )

Odometer says 265k and is still running perfectly.

sent the V10 M5 in on Friday to get the clutch and flywheel changed.

Went to replace the battery in the e12 since it had died and realized that the ground cable that comes off the negative terminal was no longer there. So I replaced that and the battery.

I'm rigging an old Android phone to use as a LoJack.



I'm rarely in a situation where I would need one but I can see using it on road trips or when I'm going someplace where I don't know what the parking situation will be.
