It doesn't require WiFi or an account with a service provider to work.
Interesting! How does it work?

GPS. I guess it still pings the satellites even with no service.

Hmm - how does it get its position to you or to the monitoring service?

I'm a maroon, it needs wifi or phone service.

Makes sense. If you're a subscriber to one of the big cable companies you could set the phone to grab the cable-wifi network that has become fairly prevalent. It won't cover everywhere the way an actual data plan would, but it would provide good signal coverage at zero cost. That's better than no lojack at all, and fits with one of my life maxims: "If it's for free, it's for me!"

I found YOKOHAMA ADVAN A048 in 205/50-R15, 225/50-R15 and decided to try them. Man, are they sticky! They'll suck in the cold/rain, but I very rarely drive this car in the rain anyway.

It will take me a while to get used to the look of the smaller diameter front tire; I really liked how the car looked with the slightly meatier 55 series tire up front before. But I'll get over it.

Hey guys, Got a new toy- 1995 Geo Tracker- and recently added 2in. lift and new shoes. A tank of gas lasts ten days instead of the four in the M and it goes anywhere but the highway. (I can barely hit 70-75.) Bonus is now I don't care if some dummus backs into me in the parking lot.

I replaced a ridiculous O-ring on the F-350s 7.3 today. It's for the high pressure oil pump and it's feed lines, the old one was very dead.

The right hand failed, I didn't replace the left as it was more complicated to get to, and -if- it fails I'll fix a few other things while I'm in there.

Old O-ring next to the new, quite scary what 110k did to it...

Not exactly car, but I rewired my little utility trailer today. Harbor Freight special 4X8 which sounds big but looks little. Trailer has been pretty good, but I chewed up the original wiring. Rewired it with a cheap kit from HF. That lasted about half an hour it was so thin, enough to carry the current, maybe, but not enough to be physically strong enough to actually handle. Hopefully the new harness off Amazon will do, it's about 3 gauges thicker wire. Maybe 4. :dunno:

After staying up until 3:00am studying, I took the e30 in for its biannual SMOG test.

Image

It's always very stressful but it passed just fine. Taking the Johnson Box off was the best thing I ever did.
The SMOG guy loved the car and he even wanted to know where I got the Coco Mats. :)

Had the K-2500 "Apocalypto" painted.

Watched a friend fix his oil pan and as an added plus got to see Chris Kohler in the process.

A good day indeed.

Today I replaced the thermostat in my (still M42 powered!) 91 318is. The job was quite the pain in the ass since I didn't have the tool to hold the pulley to remove the fan clutch nut. I'm going to buy that damn tool, I'm sick of not having it! Got the coolant filled properly and bled the air out of the system. Temp gauge now reads right in the middle of the range. It remains to be seen if I got the housing bolted back on tightly enough for it not to leak. I'd rather have the fucker drip a little coolant than break a bolt off in the block. I don't own a small torque wrench...

Tomorrow will be a good test, as I'm driving the e30 to Nelsonville OH to visit my parts guy. Hopefully my fuel economy will improve somewhat now that the car will actually run at operating temperature again. I'll be acquiring a mint set of (US) ellipsoid headlights for the e30, a set of new chrome kidneys for the same, and some little odds and ends for both the e28 and e30. Huzzah! Should ease some of the pain from missing the Vintage this year...

I removed the ridiculous window tint from the front doors of the e39 so I can drive at night.

Yes. Look for another vintage window tint thread in the parts section tomorrow.

Paid my parts guy in OH a visit Sunday. Upon my return to WV, I swapped out the factory sealed beams on my 91 318is for a set of ellipsoid headlights (from an 89 e30). Got the lows adjusted last night. Where I ran a jumper from the low to high beam relay, my fog lights now stay on when I turn on my high beams. What a difference! I CAN SEE!!!!!

ETA: Saturday I finally changed out the thermostat on the e30. I filled and bled the cooling system, no leaks, no drama. Engine runs at operating temp now, and fuel economy is back in the low 30's where it ought to be, given that I have to use crappy 10% ethanol 93 octane. Yay!

Testing the Hill decent control button of our Range Rover Evoque. Almost a year old and 13K trouble free miles. We're going to run into some mud pits and get her all covered in mud...then a trip to the mall! :laugh

I was awarded the pleasure of having to buy a new battery today. The one in the car has been weak since January and having to try to push start the car twice today sealed the deal. Car is too heavy and takes too long to get moving. It was only 114ยบ.

Pulled up to the parts store driving the blk/blk e30. The e12 hasn't moved in years, prompting first a visit to the beer store to drown my sorrows. Parts store people ignored me because all I ever buy is oil, soap and wax. I did buy some gasket sealant one time which was a real pretty blue and commented on that this last visit, so now no one will wait on me. Whatever. Next I sat in my driveway and watched a YouTube video on how to change m20 oil. Seems different, but still comes out of the bottom much like the m30. Those crazy Bavarians and their superior engineering!! Oil changed so I cleaned and lubricated the sunroof because I feel it will get much use the night Bernie is elected President. I just hope that ammo feed doesn't scuff my leather too much.

Got the street brakes reinstalled on the E82 and detailed it within an inch of its life before returning it to my dad. Got the E36 up on the lift and began reassembling the engine bay (heat shields, grounding screws, clips, etc. The epoxy paint I used on the interior, cage, and engine compartment will be fully cured and hardened in a week, which is right when I get back from the Bay Area and begin reassembling that car full time.

Dug deep into the RX7 last night.

Upper intake planum off, got to the primary injectors. There were no gaskets on the manis, just some Yamabond or something slathered on the surfaces. Injectors were loose, orings probably reused.

Confirmed I have 12v at the injectors from the relay, and 8v from the ECU. I was able to backprobe (teeheehee) the connectors and ground out the injectors and they clicked. Got a noid light kit from a tech at work, so I'll confirm if the ECU is grounding the injectors when I crank it over.

Otherwise, it's reseal everything and put it back together.

Seriously contemplating just getting a mani and popping a side draft carb on it.

Replaced the electric fan in the 2002 325xi (E46) with a CoolXpert unit. There is no engine-mounted fan on the manual tranny E46s - just this electric one between the engine & radiator. The old one had, I believe, a contol unit issue - would come on hours after the car was parked, or wouldn't come on when needed. Ran the battery down 2x recently so time to yank it & replace it. Easy R&R.

I was cruising Craigslist Free Stuff yesterday . There was an ad for a pair of BFG Baja ATs. Identical to the set on the back of the Rat . They are mounted on steelies with a chrome edge strip. The lady thought they were off an old Jimmie. Best of all, they were just over a ridge. 1/2 mile as the crow flies. A mile by road.

Put another third of it in primer. That leaves the quarter panels and the roof, now. Oh and the front and rear bumpers. And the sideskirts. On second thoughts, a third is somewhat generous. Anyway, it'd be nice to have this done. Fucking e34 is going to turn out to be a full blown resto by the time we're done and the stupid thing is supposed to be the daily driver. Right now the daily is the wife's hand me down Mazda 2, and that's under offer so it looks like the e28 may be returning to daily duties soon. Just in time for winter. Fantastish.
