Few more pictures of requirements to install the engine without compromise. It sits very low.

Lowered sway bar mount.

Image

Repositioned control arm reinforcement bar. It had to move forward to clear the bell housing.

Image

And one of the super simple charge piping. It consists of a silicon 45 off of the turbo to this aluminum elbow to another 45 silicone connector to the intercooler. Total length about 2 feet.

I have been picking at it. Finally finished a few big home projects and now have some time to work on the car. Will update in a few days.

So when I'm at Rhinebeck next week I don't suppose I'll see you pull up in this car, eh?

Had to move the battery to the trunk to make room for the coils, coolant overflow bottle and crankcase catch can. Got the coils installed. Will order the ignition wires next week.

Image

Installed the fpr and fuel lines.

Image

Image

Installed the PS cooler under the battery tray.

Image

And installed the distribution block and all the low pressure power steering lines.

Any specific reason the coils are not mounted on the valve covers?

FUGLY and will be going to an aftermarket smooth top valve cover at a later date.

Will the catch can be vent-to-atm or have vacuum? Is the much benefit (if any) either way?

Mine will just go to atmosphere for the time being. It's better to have it recirculate for emissions and ring sealing.

Installed the overflow tank and crankcase catch can. Still need to order more fittings to hook it all up.

Image

Cut and drilled the new strut bar since the last one was used for the rad support. The bar sits 2.5" above the intake manifold.

Damn, that car sure is pretty. I look at that one and just drool.

And that doesn't even take in to consideration the performance potential!

You gotta be getting antzy to start it now. Looking very nice. You are going to cause many bruised egos at the drag strip.

I predict that Corvettes will be letting guys go around them to avoid lining up next to you. Those Corvette guys try to keep the legend alive.

I predict 12.0s at a buck 22 .

Isn't that what all Todd's BMW projects run? :D

Nope - low 11s all day long. If it stays hooked, 10s.

Getting and maintaining traction without tearing the rear subframe off the car has traditionally been Todd's biggest barrier to really fast ETs. He's nearly always had the power to be quicker than his ETs showed, I don't see how a massive upgrade in power will help in that regard but time will tell.

I look forward to seeing him try. :D
