Ya know, I'm not real hard on smokers, but some of them do reek. A lot of them really, just stink of cigarette smoke, it's not a pleasant thing. The other night at the bowl a friend walked by me and the smell of smoke followed. Whoooaa, that wasn't tobacco, it wasn't nearly as offensive, or as strong. He did mention later how he was out smokin' a Jasinski, the name of a the guy who probably treated him to it, and how it was good shit. Of course I'm sure this was medicinal being California and all. But it wasn't nearly as bad as the cigarette smokers when he went by.

So Im out in the shop poking around the cars and spot a new one programming. Notice these nearly 2 inch diameter safety orange wire covers running up both sides of the fenders.

Me: Touching them for whatever reason.
Tech: DONT TOUCH THOSE!
Me: Why?
Tech: High voltage. You could die.
Me: Cool. Shit. (walks away)

just did an oil change in the new car - 4.8 liter engine takes 5 gallons of 15W50. It's not a dry sump system so all that went into the oil pan.

yes, 18.5 Litres but I had to buy them 3.785 Litres at a time.

Doing a leak down test today I found the cams and crank do no turn in the same direction.

With filter change but it doesn't matter. There are two parallel spin-on oil filters mounted upside down in the valley. I thought it was going to be a mess but the upside down filters actually make for a clean removal since they drain themselves whenever the engine is turned off.

Why did BMW need a check valve in the later M30 oil filters? The Italians seem to have no issue with starting a engine on empty oil filters.

There's a minor tie-up on the North Long Beach right near Henry Ford. Shouldn't cost you more than a couple of minutes.

There have been some neighbors that I've assisted in driving out of neighborhoods (my buddy went through two or three before he got a decent one), but I'm not sure what the statute of limitations is on some of that stuff so I'm not talking.

I had to cook spaghetti squash casserole tonight, being snowed/iced in. I hoped to get through winter without putting the Blizzaks on the 2002, as I like to let it sleep though winter, but with lots of sleet, sub 20 degree weather, icy streets with snow on top tonight, well I had too. Had to get the cheddar cheese I forgot yesterday at the store for the spaghetti squash casserole for dinner. Then I remember, oh yea, that 2002‘s heater blower ain’t working.
So quick hotwire to the hot side of the fan motor fixed that, real problem is related to the behr AC has a relay that cuts the power to the heater motor & I’m in a hurry, so no time to trace the real fault for now. Just put 2 blizzaks on the rear, open diff & I’m blowing down May Avenue as fast as a Jeep Cherokee is at 30mph on icy snowy streets. I couldn’t take the 535, it has S Drives on it they suck on snow & ice, even with the LSD.

Now I gotta decide, do I get snow’s for the E30 & put on 14‘s or do I get snow tires for the E28 to put on 15‘s.

I think the E30, it's the least loved of the 3.

Know why modern cars have idiot buzzers that go off when you open the door with the car off, key out, and headlights still on? Cause idiots like me drive to work at twilight, get to work at full bright, then leave the damn lights on. Twice this winter.

My e36 had a warning sound like a damn klaxon. Any easy way to wire that into an e28?

I don't think there's an easy way to do it (might be a good topic for Tech Talk though; not sure if you'll get many bites on that subject here.) I had the same problem with the Suzuki Sidekick I had before buying my e28 and did some digging around hoping there was a parts-store/aftermarket solution available and nope. I did find some DIYs online for such gadgets, but I didn't pursue it.

That's about the only nanny feature on cars I like.

It would be an easy install, use a double throw relay with a normally closed set of contacts, wire the coil to ignition power, 30 to a running light lead and 87a to the buzzer. Ignition on, circuit opens, nothing happens, ignition off, if power is to 30, meaning lights are on, it goes to 87a, on normal German style relays, and it powers the buzzer. If the lights are off, nothing to feed power to the buzzer. I should do it to the E12.
