Replaced my sunroof.
Having put this project off for weeks, I finally had to get it done.
Taking apart car interiors is just one of those projects that never ends very well. Quite frankly, I would rather spend a day in a small room with my ex-wife while she was having her period.
I have had to remove the sunroof three times now. First two times thanks to Bavarian Auto sending me the wrong seals.
Hardest part is getting the damn headliner to pull all the way forward so you can push the retaining clips back in to the roof panel. Mine just doesn't want to get all the way on those rear lifting wheels. Roof itself is a snap.
Four hours and LOTS of swearing later, its done.
I am now involved in a interracial relationship as you can see

Got around to replacing the thermostat in the Bronzit '85. It had been slow to warm up over the winter, and didn't produce much heat on my 10 minute ride to work. I think I found the problem!
Thanks to Manny D. for the great deal on the correct part, and Blue Shadow for making sure the job was done properly.

Installed an ebay chip i got for 30 bucks and put the car on the dyno for before and after and made an extra 30hp and tq!!! car drifts like a beast right now!

The b35'd car got a water pump Sunday on the side of Va hwy 40.
...then it got a Vega fuel pump in my GF's , parent's driveway before helping shuttle parts to you RTT guys all night.

Finished up an Inspection I, added a set of BavAuto ignition wires to replace the BavAuto wires from 35,000 miles ago. What the heck, they were sitting around, purchased on sale a year or more ago... Funny thing was that the number 1 (labeled "6") wire had it's boot installed too low and I had to cut 3/4" off the boot in order to seat the spark plug nipple into the wire. That was the other weird thing, the previous design was meant to be used without the plug nipples, using the thread gripper style, but the new wires had the nipple grabber style. I prefer to use the nipples, so that's great. The car sounds healthier than I can recall it ever sounding above 4 grand, I'm pleased. Front wheel bearing coming up soon.

Worked on the M535i today. Replaced rear shocks and springs. Replaced supporting bracket on shifting arm. Feels good.

Changed the oil. Now I'm good for another 10k miles.
And of course you change the oil when the engine's hot. It drains faster. My oil cap cracked a while back, but it still works. I think it's original.
How do you break an oil cap every month? Do you add oil that often? I drive 30k miles/year and I might add oil every other month, or I might let it slide until the 4-month mark, when it's time to change it anyway.

I have no idea if the first one was original or not, but the second one seemed to be cheap plastic (replaced by the mechanic of the previous owner) and it was cracked after my first oil change. The cheap one I have now is metal but doesn't seem to be breaking. I'm half inclined to paint it black or just order the S50 one as was mentioned by someone else. And no, thankfully, I rarely have to add oil and that's only if I'm doing hard driving.

Forgot to reset the SI lights when I changed the oil, so I reset them today. I use a homemade tool made from an old film canister. (Remember film?)

I made a bolt on reinforcing clutch peddle bracket and installed it. No need to remove the existing frame work. It went together very easy.

I finished bleeding the brakes. I FINALLY have a stiff pedal that doesn't dive bomb into oblivion every times its depressed.
Also tested the charging circuit and all is well! Can't wait to order my led's for the cluster and get everything back together.

Yesterday I actually moved it from the spot on the street where it had spent the last several weeks.
(surprised my neighbors hadn't complained about it.) The battery was dead as a stone, so put the charger on it, but after charging the no-start condition persists, but I'm not going to put much energy into troubleshooting it now though with an engine swap happening in the next few weeks. I did take the time to swap out the starter switch with a junkyard replacement, and removed the push-button starter kluge, and reassessed some of the other issues with the car.
In the next week (or so) I should be able to get my hands on a hoist & get started on the swap. The plan, such as it is...
1. yank the engine & trans out of the 525i,
2. clean (& evaluate need for seal replacement) said engine/trans,
3. yank the engine & trans out of the 528e,
4. clean engine bay,
5. elves sneak into garage & put it all back together while I sleep,
6. drive the snot out of it.
Ok, I'll admit that step #5 needs some work. A guy can dream, can't he? I might just have to set up a wrenchfest and get it done. Maybe C.R. would swing back this way so we can re-do the
Sioux Falls GTG that he missed. I'll put my order for good weather in earlier this time.

Yesterday I started in on tidying up a few things that really needed tidying, like the wire harness for the sport seats and the console that didn't like to stay in place, and the ECU cover above the glovebox. Ended up taking the seats out yesterday, and had that "Oh yeah" moment when I remembered that the passenger seat was missing one set of drive cables for the recline function. I had bought some from someone on the board, so I dug them out, got them installed, and got the passenger seat back in & working.
Then I set to putting the driver's seat back in and found that the threads in the floor on the front right corner of the seat were bummed up and the bolt wouldn't thread in there, so I made a couple of stops looking for a tap to clean them out. Sunday afternoon isn't a good time for that here, so it's still sitting in the driveway with the driver's seat laying on its back. Tomorrow.
Lately though my wife has really been working on me to sell this car --
"wouldn't it be nice to sell the old cars and get something newer that doesn't need so much attention..." -- and I hate to say it but she may be getting through to me.
But then I actually spend some time working on it (I don't think I spend enough time on it) and wonder if I could really let it go... I don't think so, at least not without having a nicer replacement e28 already lined up.
