I fixed my electrical issue so now I just have to fix the stereo hum, fix the cruise control and put the stock exhaust back on and I'm ready.

Me, wkohler and Jeff B are meeting OcCoupe at his house in Costa Mesa on August 16. We're going to Morro Bay where we will have dinner with Jay who's just down the road in Pismo Beach. Wednesday morning MLastovo should be in Morro Bay some time after breakfast and then we'll head over to US 101 via Old Creek Road (which is a MUST drive if you're ever in the area). We'll do some wine tasting in Paso Robles and then continue on to Pacific Grove.

Based on the M5's current mileage, it should turn 300,000 somewhere between Paso Robles and San Miguel

Uh Charles? I don't know how to tell you this but I'm leaving on the 13th. But first I have to finish restoring and cleaning my car.

We are staying at no other than the one and only

Sandpiper inn.

Hopefully the cars don't get too dirty on the way up. I learned from last year that following Charles is not a good idea, he likes to throw cigarettes and twinky wrappers out the window.

Since the e28 M5 is featured this year, Darin and I went down to La Jolla Independent today to help get Carl Nelson's car ready. There is a LOT of work to do.

This car needs to be done in three weeks.

I totally heart the Sandpiper. Hopefully the new management hasn't screwed it up.

Hey, it's VACATION. Stop obsessing with timetables. Changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes.

Alrighty then

I installed an new exhaust in preparation for Monterey. I had to finish painting it and doing some touch up. I think it looks pretty good. I also sent the bumpers out to be chromed, I hope to get them installed next week.

Nice work Mike! That car must be the cleanest on the board. Detailed work like that deserves consideration of trailering it up to Monterey. Drive it back. Either way, good luck.

I wasn't going to quote all of the above again, but these pictures and Mike's effort just flat out deserve it! I mean really, how in the hell are you supposed to compete against this??? If you're entered in the same category as Mike, you might as well put down your rags and make a cocktail instead. And you may think this looks incredible, but if you ever get a chance to see this in person, just wait until you see the engine bay, fuuuuuudge.

My hat's off to you Mike! Your ride would embarrass the assembly workers in Munich, who probably think their work is spotless as the cars roll off the line. The plant manager would be wise to hang some of your pictures in the locker room as motivation. Or not, he may just find himself at the bottom of the Isar River.

Guys, that is very kind of you. There will be some amazing cars competing including ones much newer than ours. I'm certain that this year's competition will be stiff and the benchmark will be set very high; so I need to be as prepared as I can be. I know that Darin, Charles, and Jeff have been working very hard at getting ready for the trip, I hope we can have a repeat of last year where each of us took home an award, perhaps this time will include Mr. Kohler!!!

Maybe not as hard as I should be.

Before I can start on cosmetic stuff, I have to get some creature comforts fixed like the cruise control and stereo. :?

I don’t know about the rest of the West Coast Crew but while Charles is working on his burn (he is Scottish) I am having a very difficult time figuring out which combo will look best at the ball.

And why is getting ready for a car show harder than assembling the GD car?!!!!!!!

So far I have put in 10 hours on Amy’s car (Carl’s wife), a SHIT LOAD into mine and I am no closer on either. I am starting to feel like I am channeling Linus. These cars are just NOT going to make the trip to Monterey…

I'm trying to make plans to attend the Legends on the 16th and the Festorics on the 17th. Now I might be without the family. So I'll post up here if that happens and see if anyone wants to split a room. Their pretty pricey that night.

If the family doesn't come and I find out what is draining my battery, then I'll bring the fugly still bumperless e28. If I can't figure out the battery issue then I'll bring the even uglier e39.

I vote the top one; if you don't use it I'll take it ;)

Are you guys going to roll up PCH through Malibu again? If so and you guys take a lunch stop there, let me know and I'll meet up with you. Heck, depending on the day, you guys can pit here at my house.
So is it Tuesday or Friday?

Chas, I'm flying into SNA on Sunday the 11th. Our reservation starts on the 13th, so I'm pretty sure we're driving straight up on Tuesday. It's almost drinky time!!!
