Raj,
That first set of wheels might be OK for a regular 5er, but not something as rare as a Euro M5. Rule #1 when you own a car like a Euro M5, no mods that are not simply a bolt-on. The exception would be something like swaybar mount reinforcements or other minor mods that improve reliability that are not visible. However one should never cut or modify exterior sheetmetal as it devalues the car.
Just my $.02
Hey Tony, if you are looking for nice, unique, period correct wheels, I personally think that a set of Hardy&Beck 3-pc 16's would look absolutely bitching on your car. Not sure where you'd find them, though.
Didn't Todd have like 10 of these wheels at one time?

I don't like the BBS RS, that is why I did not name it.
I would like the car to look remotely period correct, but not so far as to put original wheels on it.
The Hardy & Beck wheels would be nice. I actually may have a set, I will have to look in the barn. But I think they might be 14".
As for the Alpina's, I just don't get that excited over them for some reason.

Geez Rich, it just a car. Why don;t you finish it so you can drive it. Then you might realize it's a car and not a trophy or museum piece.

Contact Allen Hardy. He's still in business in Berkeley. I called him a couple months ago about rebuilding on of my H&B's as the inner rim has cracked. If he can rebuild old wheels, I'd bet he could supply a set too.

Raj,
I have to get the engine back before I can finish it. And mine won't be a museum piece like Ron's, it will be driven but there won't be any mods done that aren't easily reversible.
FWIW: I have RD Sport springs, Koni yellow sport shocks for front/rear. An Ireland front strut brace, and I'll buy one of Harrison Motorpsorts rear braces soon. A modifed rear subframe with camber/toe adjustments done via slotted tabs and eccentric bolts. RD Sport sway bars will probably be acquired to compliment the springs. And E34 540i/M5 rear brakes.
The engine has custom made JE forged pistons and Sealed Power rings. Crank has been balanced to within 1/4 gram and is coated with a polymer by a company in Houston. Of course the rods have been remanufactured and CG'd plus weight matched. Cams are stock 264 degree that have degreed and the S38 dual row timing chain retrofitted along with a Fahey crank hub.
Otherwise the car will be basically stock in appearance.

I have to second the H&B 16's. I have seen those on an E28 and they instantly became my favorite wheels for these cars.
They look sweet on an E9 coupe as well. Pretty sure they are a two piece wheel though.
Alpina's always look great. For period correct look, how about some old WEDS wheels? HRE annd Fikse make bautiful (expensiev) wheels as well and some have a more classic look.

Well as far as I know, WEDS made the wheels for H&B. I have a set of 13" WEDS from an e21 that look identical to the H&B wheel.
Damn, all these choices.

Hey Tony,
What about these RZ wheels? I've wanted these for a very long time but now I got my eye on some style 32s...
By the way, what does BTDT mean?

That is THE wheel I want!! BUT....17x8.5 with et13...won't fit well. I would really prefer 16x7.5.
The second link, pretty cool, but if they really were mag, wouldn't they be um, flammable? ~0
Shifty, if you're afraid of that, you'd better not go near any air-cooled VWs -- their engine cases are magnesium. %)

Naw, mag/al alloy but pretty light. The Porsche 911 engines were the same alloy until about 73-75 time frame. They went to al alloy after that.

Tony:
How about these? They need some TLC, but if you can get them cheap enough they might
be worth it.

Ahh, well that's okay then. I'm sure mag/al alloy is very light. Even if it was pure magnesium, I guess they had their engineering reasons for doing it!

Those look like a cross between a BBS RX and the factory Style 29 (15x7 and 16x7 sizes, ET20, came on the E39 528i), except it's got gold centers. Looks pretty good!
