I just saw the damage for myself. I walked around the corner of the yard and almost started crying, seriously! When I saw the damage, two questions popped into my mind. First, was Sherman ok, and how was he able to go to work today? Second, why did Union Pacific Railways suddenly take a right turn!
It is truly a sad day. One of the nicest e28's on the gulf coast. RIP little e28. You will be missed

Me too. I'm sure he'll have complimentary Four Lokos for all as well.
Glad you're OK Sherman!

Good god man, the 5-speed swapped eta?
It's a good thing it wasn't on the gas tank side looking how far that went in.

Do you ride big pimpin' style? Or did something happen to the seat?
edit: It looks like the bolts ripped up out of the floor.
You must be sore.

Holy crap dude. The seat ripped off the floor! I hope that helped reduce the decel event and you aren't stuck in bed with a bad back.

Its a little trite by this point in the thread, but
Looks like the car did its job of protecting the occupants though. Thoughts and prayers.

Did enough walking when I was a kid.

Don't know about all that, but Thanks.

If the impact had occurred at almost any other point, my son or I might not have walked away so easily.

Yes it did, and yes I am.
German engineering at it's best.

Don't be vulturing my car so quickly dude.
I'll be in mourning for at least a few days.

Thanks once again for the thoughts and prayers.

Ah Geeze, It was only a 528e. A rust free, MT converted example. Glad you guys walked away.

Since you are okay, I can make a little joke...
It's a good thing you had those diving board bumpers. Otherwise you'd have probably had frame damage.

Well, that sucks. For a while there I was worried that it was your M5. It's only a 528e, but that still doesn't make it suck any less. Good luck with your insurance!

Crap! that's a huge dent. I'm sure it'll buff right out though
Again, glad you guys are OK, especially after seeing that mess. That poor e28!

Damn, Sherman! I think you guys have had way more than your share of accidents for all of use here in Houston. Hope your OK; the E28 definitely gave it's all for you.

You are in our prayers Sherman. And I am so freakin' sick of people saying "it's just a 528e".
My 86 MT eta was "only" 528e but it saved my son's life. Many times. My 83 eta saved our asses during economic hardship. My 88 has been a long distance and summer abuse trooper and hospital/transplant runner. The 82 has been a fantastic backup. And even the recent 83 parts car proved to be invaluable.
So Sheman's car my have been "only" an eta... but it saved his life dammit.

...and if they hadn't of been tucked, the paint probably wouldn't even have gotten a scratch.
Now I've experienced why you purist are so against the tucked bumpers.
Who's got bumper shocks for sale?

As has been said before, glad you're ok. As for the eta, I'm sure she'll live on in other people's cars, so all is not lost. :sniff:

Yeooooooch. That looked like it hurt. You even buckled the roof, not an easy thing to do. You're alright you said? I hope so, but you know the matra about seeing a doc.
But let me be the first to say, I don't think that one
is gonna buff out.

I told Sherman that I would come help buff it out...

100% of E28 owners should be paying attention to the seat coming out of the floor.
Was the floorpan rusty in that part of the car? Is the E28 designed to fail in this way?

Man I was almost afraid to scroll down past the the before pic. A sad day for us eta owners as another one bites the dust, the car can be replaced, you or family cannot. Something to be said about the those big as ugly diving boards( I have em too) And I sustained a crash at 70kms per hr. I drove home and had the car pulled straight, as we have a 100% rear end fault clause so it's covered up here, Shiddy deal on the crash man wishing you all the best!
Daayum!
