Without a doubt, I say do this.
Yep. Doooo Itttt...

Nothing cooler then an M5T...

The E12 is not the best chassis to stuff it into. That engine in another E34, it was meant to be :)

Oh, then bring it on the RTT tour... :)

This was my thought, which is why I abstained from voting. Where is the *evilgrin* smiley?

Would be cool to swap. But the e34 is really not so far gone that it deserves to be torn down. Then again, as Chris notes, they are not worth much in the open market anyhow....

Which leaves the Park It option. That's the right thing to do. Circle back at a later date and make it right? Or, provided you have no deep emotional attachment, find a home that will follow a similar path.

I think I was the first to know about this project. I was told to "keep it under my hat" but I guess Sherman has a hard time doing that himself.

I voted "park it" only because I know of 2 S38 blocks for sale ready to be built up. 1 is a bare block perfect for a complete build and the other is mostly complete, should be missing the head and cams sometime soon ;), but needs a rebuild. IMO if your going through the trouble of doing a swap, might as well build a motor for it. It will add $$$ to the project but make it that much more special.

Josh's is the definition of a nice E12. He made me get out of the driver's seat because I couldn't stop drooling on the leather!

Hey, Sherman; here's an idea... Buy Luis' e32 and drop the S38 & a manual into it. ///M7 FTW! :haul:

Image

Then you'd even have a spare M30B35 to put in the e12. 208 HP ought to wake it up a bit, doncha think? ;)

The reason I didn't buy this car when I was told about it (by the person you bought it from before he picked it up) was that I didn't want it to get parted out. I don't think it is right to part out a perfectly good hand built M5 just for the drivetrain, especially after seeing what Ed Locke went through to save one that most people would write off. As I said, though, if you do I am interested in the remains.

You don't like the thirst and you're concerned with the repairs coming along sometime on the S38. Those two don't look like good reasons to spend a bunch more to have them in an e12.

Sell it if you're not in love with it. There will always be others if you change your mind.

At 3K to 5K miles per year it will then be tolerable.

I thought it'd be nice to get a bit more oomph out of its go pedal when it does hit the road.

I've got an E12 parts car, would doubling it be sufficient?

What's the curb weight of an e34 Touring vs. that of an e32? I'm guessing there's not much difference. And besides; the M5 Touring has been done before, but an M7? Not so much.

Curb weight on the e32 is about 3800lbs. The e34 528/530/535's are around 3500 I think.

I like the e12 idea the best...

E34 ///M5 - 3,682 lbs
E28 ///M5 - 3,417 lbs
E12 Mnot - 3,371 lbs

Now we need to calculate the difference between the stock E12 M30 2.8 and the E34 S38-B36.

What about the e34 Touring? Since that's what he was considering swapping the drivetrain into, the e32 was an alternative suggestion to that. Of course the e12 is going to be lighter; unique was the intent behind the suggestion, not light.

Either way, you'd be eligible for one of these. ;)

Who says nobody has made an M7?
I know of some guy named Kenny who has an e23 with an S38, pushes it around the track like a fat man in a tracksuit.
