I did build an AR-15 once even used some pretty cheap parts but done right I could kill a ground hog at ~300yrds with iron sights. Pretty fun to do it your self very satisfying.

I can relate to your issue. Hopefully your rotator cuff is OK. I used to train unscientifically and very heavy with soreness for days. I remember doing heavy military and behind the neck presses and weighted pullups, etc. Not good. That was then. Now nearing 50 I have since had surgery on one shoulder for arthritis and bone spurs (which went well and didn't disable me for too long) and may have to get my other one done soon. I no longer lift heavy (no point unless I was competing at a high level) but prefer mostly body weight total body exercises with wide range of motion and dumbell work. I also continue to do martial arts (came in handy a couple months ago...long story) but no longer do much full contact training because I don't like being injured that much: torn UCL, broken toes, nose, etc.

Now I train for longevity, health, total body strength and coordination which is very different from powerlifting.
I see a lot of good suggestions. Good luck.

Home-brewing, gives a great reward for effort extended. Have local restaurants save the lead caps from the wine bottles that still have such, melt the lead and cast historically correct figures (soldiers & the like) then hand paint and create a diorama. Watch golf.

Get someone else to drive you around if possible, amazing what else you see when not busy driving.

So its been a year, I never picked up a new hobby.
I ended up being back at work in 3 days and PT 4 Days a week. Since they ended up removing the debris of my labrum, instead of repairing the shoulder ligaments. The doctor knew that I would be looking at 2 years off of lifting after fixing both shoulders and chose to take the easy route. Now I do rotator cuff work everyday to keep the capsule strong.

I have done one Powerlifting meet since the surgery and beat my pre-opp numbers and took home a gold metal and outstanding deadlift awards. I can't Complain.

I gotta break out the trains! Got stacks that my uncle left me.

Great way to pass the time, especially with the buildings and train cars that you build and paint instead of off the shelf.
