I installed an new exhaust in preparation for Monterey. I had to finish painting it and doing some touch up. I think it looks pretty good. I also sent the bumpers out to be chromed, I hope to get them installed next week.
Nice work Mike! That car must be the cleanest on the board. Detailed work like that deserves consideration of trailering it up to Monterey. Drive it back. Either way, good luck.
I wasn't going to quote all of the above again, but these pictures and Mike's effort just flat out deserve it! I mean really, how in the hell are you supposed to compete against this??? If you're entered in the same category as Mike, you might as well put down your rags and make a cocktail instead. And you may think this looks incredible, but if you ever get a chance to see this in person, just wait until you see the engine bay, fuuuuuudge.
My hat's off to you Mike!
Your ride would embarrass the assembly workers in Munich, who probably think their work is spotless as the cars roll off the line. The plant manager would be wise to hang some of your pictures in the locker room as motivation. Or not, he may just find himself at the bottom of the Isar River.

Guys, that is very kind of you. There will be some amazing cars competing including ones much newer than ours. I'm certain that this year's competition will be stiff and the benchmark will be set very high; so I need to be as prepared as I can be. I know that Darin, Charles, and Jeff have been working very hard at getting ready for the trip, I hope we can have a repeat of last year where each of us took home an award, perhaps this time will include Mr. Kohler!!!

Maybe not as hard as I should be.
Before I can start on cosmetic stuff, I have to get some creature comforts fixed like the cruise control and stereo.

I don’t know about the rest of the West Coast Crew but while Charles is working on his burn (he is Scottish) I am having a very difficult time figuring out which combo will look best at the ball.
And why is getting ready for a car show harder than assembling the GD car?!!!!!!!
So far I have put in 10 hours on Amy’s car (Carl’s wife), a SHIT LOAD into mine and I am no closer on either. I am starting to feel like I am channeling Linus. These cars are just NOT going to make the trip to Monterey…

I'm trying to make plans to attend the Legends on the 16th and the Festorics on the 17th. Now I might be without the family. So I'll post up here if that happens and see if anyone wants to split a room. Their pretty pricey that night.
If the family doesn't come and I find out what is draining my battery, then I'll bring the fugly still bumperless e28. If I can't figure out the battery issue then I'll bring the even uglier e39.

Are you guys going to roll up PCH through Malibu again? If so and you guys take a lunch stop there, let me know and I'll meet up with you. Heck, depending on the day, you guys can pit here at my house.
So is it Tuesday or Friday?

Chas, I'm flying into SNA on Sunday the 11th. Our reservation starts on the 13th, so I'm pretty sure we're driving straight up on Tuesday. It's almost drinky time!!!

Too bad. I was calculating where/when everyone from the South & North were leaving and I figured we would all have lunch together on Wednesday just East of Danby Junction.

Vince, I've learned my lesson from previous encounters with "The Cupcake".
I now save the beer for afterwards, it helps in washing away the bloody mary aftertaste.

I had been planning on going to Cupcake's and Kohler's place in PacGrove on Thursday for a detailing party but based on my house for Clean Car in May, it's probably not a good idea. Mike doesn't allow any talking during detailing time unless it's DIRECTLY related to technique or 'product' (product is what us mortals call wax and polish type stuff).

It turns out that the best way to remove old exhaust tips is a Dremel.
The Greeks knew it. The Carthaginians knew it. Now you know it.
Exhaust all tarted up with new paint and tips.
These are NOS Eureaux lights with the reflector in the fog housing.
And on the car.
My prediction is that I'm on the 405 North and Britney looks up from her phone, is blinded by my special brake lights and then rear-ends me.

Actually Kenny at Angels is the best way to remove the old exhaust tips. I pulled up, he got out the saw and I left. A smile and a nice gesture and we were on our way! Oh and he has this cool hydraulic thingy that makes the new exhaust tip just a wee bit wider so the new tip goes on nicely.
Sounds like you got a lot done in 2 days, way to go!!! Now maybe you can head over to Darwood's house and give him some advise on how to mix the purrfect martini.
