Cheers man, great work.
When i have a new engine management, i will sell the Alpina DME ;)

There are many things i want to do on the car in the feature, so i hope to update soon :)
This winter, i want to make the Car Alpina look from the outside...
muleskinner wrote:Great fotos, and looks like you get a really interesting bunch of running mates each year on your Alps trip. That's some hardcore engine bay porn!
The Mercedes is a 320 Lotec Turbo build , with 300+ HP and AMG suspension and manual transmission.
the 2002 has S14 crankshaft and pistons, and +/- 170 HP
The E30 is a 325i eta conversion, also +/- 180 HP

So all enthusiasts indeed :D

Thx Cek!

At this moment i am not sure any more if i want to go for the Alpina Look.

The back of the car is good as it is, i like the original look, i also don't want a fat car, so no side skirts.
The only thing i want to change is the front spoiler, and i want to keep the chrome bumper.
I also bought NOS BBS RC090 wheels, that is the reason why i am not sure about going further with the Alpina look.

I cant decide what i want, in the front, Alpina Spoiler, Pfeba, Hartge... difficult choices :?

Any other suggestions?

On E28goodies.com i found a set of uni-ball front wishbones, i recently changed the rubber inserts, but at high speed braking and cornering, there is still a wobble feeling in the steering.
Did someone fit those already? I am curious what about the drive comfort...

Regards Nick

My friend with the Aston and the other one with the BMW 2002 bought both an E28 535I this month, so the next Alps trip is with 3x E28 ;)

before the wintersleep of my car, i did some small upgrades.

The first problem i had was that the speedo needle was wobbling from prox. 100km/u and the second problem was that the gauge stopped at 240 km/u

Image

So i went to Ivo Christov in the Netherlands, he changed the gauge plates to Alpina, new condensators, new batteries, new coding plug, and an full calibration.

foto's before and after

Image

Image

the next upgrade was the diff, it was already changed to 40% lockup, but i was not satisfied with the ratio, so now it is changed from 3.46 to 3.73.
A lot better!!! now the car really pulls :D

Today i installed an Alpina steering wheel...

Image

The only Alpina parts i need to complete the car are the frontspoiler and the gear shift knob...

I finally found the time to do some stuff on the E28.

Because after all the upgrades i did, there was still a whobbling feeling in the steering wheel when i had to brake really hard.

First i changed the "red stuff" brake pads to normal TRW brake pads.
Then the discs where regrinded, i mounted the Lemförder trailing arms of a BMW 850i, and ordered new TRW upper control arms.
I changed the rubber bushings of the new arms by the Moosehead bushings.
After the first testdrive, finally a whobbling free steering wheel :D

After the suspention/brake upgrade, i mounted the digital oil pressure and temperature gauges.

The temperature sensor is on the location of the sump plug.

The result:

The Led digits dim when the light is on.

That is a neat solution for oil temp/pressure monitoring. Is the oil pressure sensor located in the standard pressure switch location in the back of the head?

Yes, the pressure switch contact is replaced by a VDO sensor with 2 connections, the connection for the oil pressure lamp and the connection for the digital gauge. (G and WK)

Time for some updates!

The bonnet, Wings and 2 left doors are resprayed because of some small scratches, under the trims of the doors whas rust that i didn't expected, Lucky only surface rust...

And the real reason for the paintwork was the Alpina spoiler :D

Because the Alpina engine was E32, the oil sump was way to much foreward.
So i found an 535i sump and suction part of the oil pump and replaced it, what a difference, now i can take speed bumps :)

The next step is replacing the engine management by EFignition (Megasquirt)

first synchronising the throttle bodies with the Motronic

Image

remove the old wiring harness

Image

Image

new wiring harness

Image

Image

Image

The maximum on the dyno was 286 HP, but because of the upcomming trip to the Alps (with often only 95 octane) we made a safe map, and this is now the result:

Image

This is the old "motronic" curve:

[/quote]

So i am happy with the result, the car drives smooth now

And the last pictures are from the Alpen trip we made 6 weeks ago…
Swiss, Italie, Austria

The last pictures shows that an Alpina spoiler don't like a tractor track on an alpine meadow :) Nothing we can't fix

Last week we went back to the Alps according to annual tradition.
2650 km in 6 days, of which only 700 km on the highway.
This year it seemed like the taxi edition with the following cars:
E28 with E34 M5 engine
Mercedes E320 Lotec Turbo with AMG chassis
E28 M535i Turbo
my E28 with Alpina block
Porsche 911 SC Targa

In terms of weather we have literally had everything, with snow on the bargain.
I was happy with the new Michelin Pilot Sport tires, changed to Alpina 17" wheels
Furthermore, the E28 has done well again! And this year no damage :D
Most of the photos were taken from the car, so apologies for the lesser quality

At the beginning of this year I also bought another E28, a known one from the forum here.
I swapped the wheels of this E28 with those of the M535i Turbo in the pictures. Can anyone guess which E28 I bought? :)

Amazing annual trip with spectacular photos as always! Send us a link to your new acquisition. Also, I'm sure it will be a project. Hope to see that here too.

Plus one- excited to see how you tend to it. Also curious of its current condition. Pics?

Was watching this video yesterday and wondered what it would take for this guy to sell his car. 2nd owner- congrats!

The third owner ;)

I bought the car in the Netherlands, the previous owner had it for 2 years, but he didn't put 500 extra miles on it...

I want to begin with the interior, restore the original leather, paint it in the original color.
There are also a lot of parts from the suspension and gear lever that have wear, the car feels "tired"
Also is the engine not running 100%, thinking about a standalone ECU swap.

When mechanics and interior are done, it wil have a complete respray in the original black.

so i won't get bored the first year ;)
