I think he was using a place over in South Windsor last I knew. I'm almost afraid to run it in the current configuration as I really have no idea where I am fuel wise. I don't hear any knocking, but I doubt I could hear it at 4-5k RPM anyway. I need to install an o2 sensor and hook it up to my o2 gauge to get a better feel for where I am.

Yep, I have their name and number if you're interested. I may have more time to play with than I thought, so we'll see what I can get done.

This Engine info is applicable to the 1985 M30-M102 engine.
The BMW 745i has the big six M-30 engine, with 3.2 to 3.5 liters of displacement. Officially this engine was designated as the M102 instead of the standard M30 motor. Engine differences are subtle but they do exist. Bore and stroke are identical to the M30 engine, either 89mm and 86mm stroke or 92mm and 86mm for the 3.5 liter engine. The M102 has stainless steel oil squirters which are pressed into the top side of the main bearings. These oil squirters provide cooling and lubricating oil to the wrist pin and the under side of the piston. On the passenger side of the block there is a flat boss which has been drilled out to provide an oil return path for the turbo. Oil feed to the turbo is from the oil block adapter via a .5" OD metal tubing.
The M102 pistons look identical to a 1985 M30 piston, both have a 14cc dish which aids in mixing of the air/fuel by adding turbulence. The rods look identical to a M30 engine. Rumor has it that these rods are stronger than the regular M30 ones. This has not been confirmed yet. Top ring on the M102 is chrome with a steel 2nd ring. Wrist pins are identical on both engines. Compression ratio for the US M30 was 8.8:1 for the 3.3 and 8.0:1 for the3.5 liter. The earlier 745's had a lower compression ratio,7.0:1 but the later ones with the 3.5 M102 have 8.0:1 like the US M30 3.5 liter.
seems to me just bolting up a 745i system isnt as easy as it sounds...
lotta differences from our m30s

Here's my 2 cents:
The 745i system is great for a low-budget system. It requires lots of tinkering and tuning, and stuff is usually homemade which means it'll break easier. Turbo lag sucks terribly.. these cars (745i powered cars)truely are slugs until 3k rpm. Intercooling it is NOT convienient, nor are most ways as effective as TCD's water to air system.
The TCD system is superior in almost every aspect... I really don't understand why people try to bash it.

because they think they can do it better and cheaper by cobbling together scrap parts. they will learn.
