oy....just adding up major upgrades and svc reciepts (over $1k) and including my car; I've spent $27,000 since October of 2002, when I got my car.

Let's see. 1988 535i 5 speed bought in May '93, Brakes, tires/wheels, new head in '97, exhaust, guibo, center bearing twice, AFM, LS diff, misc. maintenance items. Probably right around $20K includuing original $8500 cost.
$20k/142 mounths = $141 per month
$20K/100k miles = $0.20 per mile.
Doesn't include gas, oil changes and insurance.
Still, not bad.

Of course I have well under $10K total in my two e12s.

My e34 is close to $18K in 2 years, but I expect that to slow down now that I have fixed most of the 100Kmiles problems.

That's over the course of about 4 years, right?

Does your wife know about that? If not, does she have access to the board? :p

Thanks! :p

Wanna use it? I'm already tired of it, and it's been up for an hour. :D

Speaking of Shifty's avatar of Duke, since Shifty said he was willing to let Duke have the use of it as he was tired of it, I agree,

I could see getting sick of that in an hour!

Because I know Shifty will change his avatar and then this post will look even more stupid that it already is.

Oh man, my sphincter gets altermately tight and loose thinking about this subject. I've probably spent around $16-17K over 5 years of ownership. I'm done with the car and on to other E28's now. "Axel" (Ginny gave him a name) sits under the carport and I reserve him for those occasions when the roads are dry and relatively uncluttered. He is nearly perfect for making my neck short-hairs stand up whilst eating up twisty roads outside my door. I smile every time I crank it up and marvel at how much fun a four-door box car provides.

I have an '87, white, auto now that I paid $800 for and am in the process of getting it road worthy and comfortable. I have a budget of no more than $2,500 to get "GirlFriend" (that's the new name for the '87) in shape and suitable for showing to my UBER critical E28 friends. Nothing special here, just a basic transport with some minor handling improvements to make everyday commuting fun.

Along the lines of this topic...I bought my car from the original owner and he said the car was a like a really bad mistress. That is, every time he saw her he had to drop a load of $$ on her. That's why he decided to dump...er...sell her.

i hav'nt added up reciepts because i'm scared too. but since january of 2003 i'm in over $20,000 and if i'd had to pay for the crank, rods, and pistons for my engine i'd be over $30,000. and i've got some other stuff i'm not figuring in because i bought whole cars for one or two parts and sometimes i've traded things out for other things. and then i guess you'd have to factor in the lump i'm building for it now so i really don't even want to think about it. !@#$

Hmmmm, leseee;

I'd guess about $15K - 17K, mostly due to the original purchase price 4 years ago and the engine rebuild 2 years ago. I can't buy a Corolla S or Vibe GT from my employer for that little money and my car is way more fun.

I have about $30K invested in my dedicated track M5 since I bought it for $1800 in Jan, 2002. This car was pretty much a complete re-build both mechanically and cosmetically... and was basically saved from the "crusher". And, I have about $20K invested in my weekend street M5 that I bought in March, 2003 for $16K. I plan to bring both to 5erFest.

Icehaus, Just get the parts and take your white car to the NorCal WrenchFests with a case of beer. Sit back and manage the resurrection of the car to your standards. I'm sure the guys will chip in and get it right.

Seems I'm not alone having spent 15k +. After that I quit keeping track. :D
