Although Ali has the quote of the thread the M30B35 swapped E28 is probably my favorite piece of real advice. The B35 variant of the M30 has 208hp as opposed to 182hp in the B34 version used in the E28 from '85-'88. The B35 is also a smoother engine.skip535i wrote:That's some funny stuff, Ali!
Good luck, dude. My recommendation is to look for a B35 swapped 535i that already has some suspension mods, that would be a perfect start if you want a "track-able" daily driver.
There are those that would say the B34 is more appropriate for F/I applications though. There was a Euro, high compression B34.....but may as well just get a B35, easier to come by, IMO.
I thought it was the head casting that was prone to cracking? Not as bad as the e12 stuff, but much more prone to cracking than the b34 for whatever reason. The blocks (to my understanding) are just as robust as any other m30 block.mooseheadm5 wrote:Late B35 blocks are prone to cracking.
Nope. Paul Burke went through 3 (or maybe more) B35 blocks when he was looking for a good one for cvillebimmer. X rays showed cracking. George's 535i B35 block cracked, too, and that was without FI. No, the B35 was never a stock motor in an E28 anywhere. It was used in E34s, E32s, and E24s and was the final swan song for BMW's infamous M30 engine when it was retired in 1994. The easiest conversion can be done with an early E34 motor or an E24 one as they should have the correct mounting points to bolt straight onto the E28.
