and why are the regular MLS gaskets coming as 2.3mm compared to the stock 1.87mm. why such a difference, does the comp ration get too high?

it depends lot of which kind of engine you are building...

if compression rate is lower than stock... you can use higher higher boost... like over 2.5bar

and this helps a lot with cylinder head flowing...

we measured that m21 cylinder head flows about 145hp in stock condition... but my head flows about 250hp easily now...

but main reason to your question is that i had no choice... my friend had one spare mls gasket and it was that...

Well while im working with my own car... i has other projects too
for other people...

im doing 1988 ford mustang for one racing team where im planned to race with it...

but really interesting project is what im doing for my friend...

Nissan cedric turbodiesel with ld28 ;)

Super sizing the fuel lines...

im doing my new fuel lines...

inner diameter is now 9mm from tank to injection pump...

just noticed that injection pump has 6mm connector....
now it has 9mm connector...

Just got ready engine room section electrics...
NO more shitty wires etc...

now engine room needs only paint job for boost pipes, finishing for the fuel lines etc...

after these mods i will bolt on my bodykit and beige leather seats

after all this... i will make real photoshooting with my friend who is professional Photographer.

but i say... car is not made with with big money today... and it is not show car... it is just made for fun and weekend fighter and actually for daily usage in summer...

so there are few not so cool thing in it...

Ok.

I got some sandblasting operations today...

i blasted few work project parts and in same session i blasted boostpipes for my car... before that i grinded welding joints from boostpipes...

after that i painted those with black urethane paint...
tomorow i will paint those with silver wheel paint (no spray paint)

maybe soon i will fit the bodykit

I have now read this whole thread and also checked out all of your pictures in the eyecandy section. Very nice project and car i must say! Looks almost like my 524td, same paintcode and then i've even got a set of Breyton magic 19" rims that looks almost like yours except from the "splitwheel bolts". :shock: :D

I have a similar project going on with my car, but don't worry it will be repainted in another colour and use other rims. ;)
Maybe i will put up a project thread in here later on.

I'm very curious on how your new fuelsystem works. :) That's one thing that has annoyed me for long time, the stock filtering when there is airbubbles.

it really works... i have tested it littlebit... no air bubbles anymore...

need to check my fuel pressure when i get gauge on it...
i will report later when i know more...

Hell yeah... car is inspected now... and taken to road use...
just cruised about 150km today!!

everything works just how i wanted, boost is 0.5bar but later i will use 2.5bar...

Hell yeah!!! i DID IT!

we got an leaky mls gasket.... with daily driving and 1bar boost

i think this is caused by failure in bloc deck surface... or leak between layers of mls gasket... which i dont glued...

Congrats! Or what should i say.. :D It sounds like the issue depends on either block or cylinderhead surface. What i've heard the MLS gaskets requires very good surface finish to work. Some poeple says that you have to glue, and some says you don't have to. But the surface finish is quite important to get it seal properly. This by experiences on gasser engines, but the same should apply for the diesel, if not more important than gas engine.

i have some ideas about this...

my cylinderhead was better than new one... and never used...

but that block or.... hard studs caused this by aluminum head thermal expansion...

and i used vht copper gasket glue... that i always use...

mls gasket with elastomer doesnt need glue...

there is some good info in the turbo section about MLS gaskets. I'm sure you know what your doing because your work looks good. A lot of guys had leaks when the surface of the head and block weren't at a mirror finish.

Holy moly... i just found that crank bearings and connecting rod bearings and piston ring are not so expensive what i thought...

so i say hell yea... i will get my fully machined flame ring block from storage!

just got cyl head back on place...

i cleaned old mls gasket surfaces and glued it between the layers...

tomorow i will do some tests... hope it will work
