Hi,
if your car is registered and running, what about an dyno measurement? If i remember correctly you are running 1,9 bar of boost and have a big turbo, so this should bring some really serious power figures. As written so many time, i would really love to see, what peak power you reach and how quick the turbo spools.
Can we assume to see some dyno plots anytime soon?
Best Regards

Not in finland.... my td is 83' so its over 30yrs old...Jelmer538i wrote:Lucky guy! For a 524TD you pay almost €1500,- a year for road tax!
But when your car gets older than 25 years it is free of road tax.
those payments are every year and nothing will change.... this is what car costs in finland...
and if i have newer car.... you can double that cost...
this why finland has very old cars...

Well while i got no money... but my friend has money and m40b16 engine...
just making part list for him...
im going to do turbo exhaust manifold for his engine...
power goal is 200hp so nothing special... but idea is that engine room looks factory like...
many people asks why the hell m40 engine....
main reason... it is almost freebie to make... we have three engines and friend just bought one with 50e

Hi,
i hope you have had a good christmas and also wand to wish a happy new year (at least in days).
Looking forward to see some more pics and data from your diesel bimmer next year.
Best Regards
Alleslowbuged
P.S.
My one has get a new water cooler and is now rock solid in regard of the coolant temperature. I run it with 1,2 or 1,3 bar of boost for the last couple of weeks and everything runs fine and it pulls very strong, even with this relative low boost level. I really love this machines, i am now also in some 325TDS, but even if the tds is reving a bit more keen, i more like the mechanical throttle feel from the 524TD engine.

Nope at all...
still winter in here... and i dont have garage...
i hope that i have enough cash to repair few issues and inspect it for summer....
and after that enough cash for driving it...
but i can say... nothing happens before 6.6
next summer will be with same engine setup (if i even drive with it)

Well i forget few issues with my car...
main problem is front shocks which are made by koni, they where leaking oil out whole summer and in the end they stopped working properly...
I need fix this issue before inspection, but i has limited amount of money, good thing is that im former hydraulics mechanic so i can fix those by my self.
so that was issue number 1.
issue number 2.
Slave cylinder of my clutch which does not working
clutch plate is weared a bit so pushrod of slave cylinder is too short, i try to make it bit longer if that helps.
there is more small issues what i need to fix... but i hope that i will get all fixed and at last i can make good burnout video for you

Hi,
burnout video??
I hope you get your issues sorted quickly and still looking forward to see some dyno results from your bimmer.
My 524TD also have a new issue, it stopped to running properly and when i look at the cambelt i found this:
After that i was happy that rough running was all was happend. Anyhow i will take this event as starting point to swap the turbo to an Switzer S2B with a quick spool valve.
Best Regards

My belt jumped only on teeth and valves where making contact with pistons.... god thanks just enough to make mark on the soot on the tip of the pistonAlleslowbuged wrote:Hi,

are you using dual ported stock exhaust and dual ported turbine chamber.... remember that you cant use spool up valve in exhaust manifold which is dual ported....Alleslowbuged wrote:After that i was happy that rough running was all was happend. Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
Nothing right now... im considering to make startup in this or next week.... still in sleeping mode cause lack of money
Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
Hi Dieselboost... I have a quick question ... will a hx35 fit a stock m21 manifold with hitting or coming into contact with the engine or anything?? i have managed to source a hx35 from a iveco truck engine, but i want to know if it will fit on my stock manifold because i cant afford a custom manifold at the moment...cheers

Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
It will hit valve cover. Need to raise and/or tilt a little the turbo.
I welded two flanges together with a small angle and threaded flanges for studs.

Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
Thanks for the reply! i did a mock up today never going to fit with the stock manifold, i am now considering buy one of those ebay m20 manifolds and adapting it to fit an m21... has anyone tried that yet??

Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
One guy made that m20 manifold for m51 engine.... it's quite easy to do...
there is one irritating thing about those long tubing manifolds in diesel... your turbo just wont spool up....
stock is way better manifold... even up to 300hp diesel is so different than gas engine...

Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
Hey Dieselboost nice to hear from you, very interesting info about the m20 manifold because i was just about to buy one tomorrow...so did you keep the stock manifold on yours? if so what did you use to make it fit? some kind of flange extension adapter thingy?
on a side note, i have noticed that my air filter has quite a lot of oil in it from the crankcase breather hose, is that definitely just down to engine wear/blow by, or maybe something more simply, because it shows no other signs of being worn starts first turn doesnt use oil, has good power and good mpg.
also what is the max power i can get with a hx35 and a stock but heavily tweaked pump?

Re: DIESELBOOST'S 524TDst (Sleeping over the winter)
mine is the same except does not start on first crank, i get a little puddle in the bottom right corner of my airbox. someone was saying to me that it was either the turbo seals or the oil rings on the pistons but that i dont know and that was coming from someone who just knows diesels in general not specifically this one so i dont know but i have oil in there too. What is acceptable blow by though?RR635 wrote: i have noticed that my air filter has quite a lot of oil in it from the crankcase breather hose, is that definitely just down to engine wear/blow by, or maybe something more simply, because it shows no other signs of being worn starts first turn doesnt use oil, has good power and good mpg.

I made my exhaust manifold by my self from "black iron watertube" 90degree corners and strait tube... its design is same than in stock manifold, but with larger diameter of tubing... cause my cylinder head has larger valve seats and valves + larger ports... so stock manifold has too small port diameter for my cyl head...
put that crank chase breather under the car directly to outside
i i remember your m20 manifold withs quite easily to m21 you need modify cylinder head side flage little bit.... turbo flange fits nicely i think...
it is possible that you need to cut apart cylinder head flange... and weld it in another place.... (i really dont remember how bad it was) but anyway it can be fitted to m21
