Took the old sagging "Mouse fur" head liner off cleaned up the old foam/adhesive mess on the liner and put it back in the car. New "Mouse fur" this winter when it is too cold to be fun outside.

A new twist on the Tiger horn hole covers. These spring loaded doors will keep hot air from the engine compartment from circulating forward and through the radiator while stopped which causes higher coolant temps and then at speed will open and allow more cool air into the engine compartment.

Working with magnetic weight to get the door to open earlier and wider.

Replaced fuel lines under the hood....PITA!

Fuel filter (brown death came out) plugs, wires, cap, roter, air filter.

Painted all the air intake tin!

On to the belts hoses and coolent!

Then brakes....

Then odo and dash lights

Suspension...

Filled up the Touring with fuel.
The last two tanks of combined city/hwy, at least 50/50 and if not that it was heavier on the city than hwy side, driving came in at 22.895 MPG.
If my wife could get that out of her '92 ///M5 I'd be .

New rear shocks on the E36. They were a piece of cake, but taking out the speakers and tearing out the trunk and insulation took longer to R and R than the shocks. Even put in a new trunk wiring harness, the design folds the harness every time it opens leading to wires breaking from metal fatigue. It had been fixed very poorly before, I'd patched it once but I knew it was on borrowed time. At least the new wiring was finer strands so it should be longer lasting and more flexible.

Hit 195k on the touring today. That would be at least 13k miles after I bought it with 182,xxx miles in February. It was supposed to have 143k on it, but not everyone is as big a fan of the truth as I am. Worked in his favor that the odometer didn't display all the digits I guess. I have fixed that, of course.

Piddled around with the E12 a bit this afternoon. Put the headlights back in and I put the license plate back on (has tags until 2016). I didn't have any tail lamps at the house, though. I'm a bit worried I'll get written up for a code violation with the car in the driveway, despite being under three car covers. Of course, they're three crappy car covers, so they look great. It's still registered and insured, so I'm sure I could make a case for something. It does have a drivers seat in it too.

In Columbus Ohio the rules are that you can't have an in-op car in your driveway for more than three days. It has to be running, drive-able and have current tags. This is why a parts car is so difficult for me to have because I would need to strip it quick in my wife's garage space. That also involves a jewelry purchase if it were ever to happen so it gets a little costly.

There is a guy who lives on one of the main entrances to our neighborhood who is clearly a Pontiac fan. He has a few including a 90s era Firebird which was wrecked years ago. It sits in his driveway covered in a non-breathable blue tarp with it pulled up over the license plate so you can see the tags. This annoys me. First off its a huge eyesore right when you drive in the neighborhood but secondly he's destroying the car by not using a breathable cover. That thing is on its way to being a total rusted mess. I'll never call code enforcement on anyone in our neighborhood but he's had me thinking about it.

Repaired the trans cooler line on the Rover in the same manner as the PO long ago did, a hose clamp.

It blew off again and I will be repairing it in a parking lot to get home and remedy this problem for good.

Added another one to the stable this weekend; 2001 e53 X5 3.0/5 speed. It's not perfect, but we worked out a deal that made it a good deal even with the issues I found. First order of business is to replace the worn subframe bushings on the rear end & get rid of the clunk back there. An order for a set of four Meyles has been placed with Mr. Blunt, and I'm hoping to get the job done this weekend. I thought briefly about going with the poly bushings for an easier install, but the cheapskate in me won out; $132 vs. $470. I might be sorry after this weekend; we'll see.

I spent some time yesterday afternoon checking out some of the features on the car and cleaning up some of the stray grit that had accumulated in the spare tire well. It's got a full-size spare hiding under the rear floor (on a shiny new Style 69) and it looks like it's never been mounted. I was impressed by the system they engineered to lift the spare tire out of the well; two straps and plastic tray under the tire, with a handle that fits into the tailgate that work together to lift it so that it can be slid off the tailgate. So slick!

Replaced the three-week old Dorman pass. rear window regulator on my wife's E46 yesterday. I did the other three last year, so I'm getting good at it! They continue to work fine.
"Limited lifetime guarantee," so I returned the bad one for a new one, in stock, at Advance Auto. Fingers crossed...

There is no HOA in my area. Well, there's a "neighborhood association" but they're worthless at getting anything done. Either way, I don't pay dues or anything and they don't care about stuff like this. I don't like to have my house look like crap or anything, but I was never worried about the car before. I always try to make what's outside look nice. This car was always in the garage because it looks like crap and also has no weatherstripping on any of the doors, along with many other pieces that aren't installed at this time. The 745i took it's place in the garage and since I cannot start it (I could, but I'd have to reconnect all the wiring, find the ECU and put a battery in it), I cannot move it to the back yard.

I received a letter from the city one day saying my grass was too long and I had excessive dry vegetation. No idea what they were talking about, but I spent a lot of time making everything looking as nice as possible given the 8 "blight" criteria on the list. Someone obviously singled me out and reported me for that (most-likely my new neighbors), while other houses didn't get anything. Because of that, and for the general welfare of the neighborhood, I'm trying to keep things incognito. It was really nice before I got the 745, I could have two in the garage, two in the back and just the touring in the driveway.

So, it gets kinda stressful.

Reminds me I need to figure out an alternative to the factory jack. It's too tall to fit the front jacking points with a full tire, let alone a flat one...

Whether my stupidity or others' I'm sick of it.

I'm still having a hard time reconciling my cheap nature with M ownership. So I'm R&R-ing the clutch again after only a few months. This time with a new flywheel, not just resurfaced. At least I'll finally have a spec for flywheel thickness.

Also discovered someone was nice enough to crack the front bumper on the M5 for me. Also broke a couple of tabs on the lower grill too.

Mended the trans cooler line on the Rover in the BP parking lot. There goes 10 more quarts of ATF, total up to twenty on the ground, ten in the truck.

It held for the 5 miles home, but barely. GF said something was dribbling out at every light we stopped at. Can no longer see out of the rear window, or open the tailgate without getting covered in ATF.

.......and the e28 decided to pick up something with the right rear tire. Dropping like flies.

My other car (also an e28, wifes' car ) received a Zender airdam from Gunther in trade for my roof rack.

I looked under the Yukon today (wife's ride) and saw a coolant drip. Radiator was cracking under the upper hose. It's good sometimes to have an Autozone vehicle in the fleet. 2 hrs later and it was replaced.

Good thing I caught it, as I'm going out of town for a week in 2 days.

One down, two to go. I hope to heck the other two go smoother than this one. It fought me up one side and down the other.

Polished my wifey's '01 oxfordgreen e39...looks like new now(the car that is)

Cleaned up the E39 540i Touring and took some glamour shots. Then listed it on Autotrader.com. I'm actually hoping it doesn't sell. If it does, I've got to get the wife the X1 she has been wanting. Only good part would be my DD would be the E38 740i Sport.

Man, the ix does a MEAN 4 wheel burnout in gravel.

After picking up the door Monday evening that strokez brought back from Kettering for me, I finally removed it from the rear of the Touring.
Snob's gonna be all pretty again soon. Hopefully.
