Took it out & thrashed it, just a little. Some of the roads around here are curvy & hilly enough that you don't dare push it too hard because you never know when you'll come up on an oncoming vehicle; many of the roads are narrow enough that one of you has to put a couple of wheels on the turf to get past each other. I'd rather pick the spots where I do that than do it in a panic at the last moment.

Replaced the entire steering linkage. Replaced the right control arm and thrust arm, and the front sway bar links. New studded tires on all 4 corners.

I spent last weekend and a better part of this week installing new upper control arms, a new center link, new sway bar links front and back, new dogbones, and bilstein hd's front and back. I had to buy new rear bilstein hd's because the seller on this board I bought them from thoughtfully didn't include the spring perches when I bought the front and rear shocks from him... Thanks for that.
Car rides so much better, but I need to get the front end aligned. At some point in the near future, I'm going to have to change out the guibo and the csb. I couldn't get it done this week, as I didn't have what I needed to drop the exhaust. When I do that, I'll also be refreshing the shifter bushings. Hopefully I'll have it everything I need to do that in the next couple of weeks.

i feel stupid for asking this, but i cant figure out what to search to come up with the answer.
in the center of the dash of my '87 528e, there is a row of colored lights. 5 or 6 green, then a yellow, then red. what the hell is this for?

Those are the SI lights. Service Interval. They are to tell you when to change your oil or do an Inspection I or II. Nobody here pays any attention to them, except when they have to deal with failing/leaking batteries which prevent them from being reset and more importantly cause the cluster to do odd things like having different gauges or the speedo or tach not work.

Not today but a couple months ago i did a bumper delete. and refitted the turn signals and fog lights appropriately. then about a month ago i painted my airbox and valve cover
then i finally installed the steering box reinforcement dowel and welded it in. but the steering box was still loose. after nosing around a bit i found the other bolt that mounts the steering box close to the frame rail had snapped off right at the nut and back out a bit. so i hammered it back through as much as it would go and welded the bolt end to the bracket.
and today i finally did my brake bomb. i got in an accident a few months after i got the car because my brakes didnt work while panic stopping. resulted in a crumpled fender and a bruised ego.
so after 3 years of ownership i finally have a e28 that steers and stops great. thanks for the tips guys.

Fed my 528e it's annual timing belt.
First time doing one so I was naturally worried I'd mess it up. All is well. Happy to have that behind me.

Just bought the car, planning on road tripping it a few thousand miles and didn't want to rely on a belt of unknown age. Annual wasn't the best way of describing it that's for sure.

FIXED MY IDLE! checked my ICV, it works when power is applied. started looking for the ICM in the glove box, and found that the connection block had worked itself loose. connected it back on, and the car idles perfectly! also figured out why my sunroof doesnt work, its missing the fuse in the fuse block for it
only confusing thing about it, is now that my idle works, the tach and speedo stopped working? i checked the fuses and they all appear to be ok. any ideas?

Drove the snot out of it on our weekend off; about 800 kilometers total, top speed of 187 kph.
(could have gone faster, but didn't have room for it, too much slow moving traffic in the wrong lane. The autobahn's unlimited speed isn't all it's cracked up to be.) We spent the weekend at a rented apartment near the
Moselle River near Frankfurt. Fall colors, gorgeous scenery, castles, vineyards, wine, schnitzel, German pastries, beer, twisty mountain roads...
The bad news; somewhere along the way I lost one of the plastic flaps that covers the jack point on the driver's side by the front wheel. Of course it's NLA; no idea what it's going to take to replace that thing.

Drove 600 miles. This is my first time driving long distances and I must say, the E28 does it well. Lock in the cruise at 70 and I've been averaging 29 mpg.
Another five hour stint Infront of me here in a few hours.

Getting ready for a date with the Mantis, so I did a valve adjustment on the M5. It's been a few years, and maybe 5K miles, so it wasn't *needed* but was worthwhile. A couple of valves were tighter than maybe I wanted them, so 7 shims changed. I'm better at this than I used to be, so it went quickly. While my oldest son learned more of the process, he really didn't learn any new vocabulary this time.
The cam-cover-stud at the center-back of the lid popped before it even got snugged down. That's the one with the ground strap, so maybe it caught a funny angle? Who knows. Those are valuable spares to have on-hand and I always have a few in my box of goodies.

I'm going to have my ports groped by a tool with long, oil-filled hoses.
