That's nice. So what do those of us who are more than willing to donate and also absolutely refuse to use PissPal do? Leave?
If it concerns you that much, I'm sure jeremy (or whoever) wouldn't mind the occasional check or money order. If he absolutely won't accept personal checks just keep mailing him parts

Also I agree with everything that jeremy posted and love the idea of recurring transfers. I think you can set that up with paypal.

NO!

Send me your check, Ken...I'll make sure it gets spent appropriately..." Her name was Lola...."

Why would you need to leave? You could keep on doing exactly what you're doing now.
Ken H. wrote:Any way to set up a lockbox at a local financial institution for payments via credit card or receipt of checks or money orders/ (Yeah, some of us still use those methods to pay for stuff. . . )
This might also have much less of a hit to the net funds received.
Do you have any experience with setting up such a thing? I've never heard of anything like it. I'd rather not just post my current address for people to send envelopes to. The reasons should be fairly obvious given this bunch. ;)

Imagine those fucking trolls that stumble in from time to time.

What if vai2iant was a "paying member"....he'd have the right to make me insane.
Hells no.

Too complicated.

We have enough beamters' to create a viable system of checks and balances for those who are concerned. I'm not.
You can discrimate who you allow to post on the board through many mechanisms as a private entity still. That being said I don't want to see it as a for-profit either but if alot of people start throwing money in a few may get upset how its spent or dissatisfied.

I do think Jeremy's solution of paypal is best if its just a matter of paying for hosting /development costs, people donating know what their donating for and there's no worry about additional things needing to get done that don't. Just keep us updated on the Papal info and thanks again for all your work.

Will you accept checks? Provide an address, payee and minimum amount to make the deposit time and hassle worth it.

What would be really great is if someone did automotive work for someone out of their garage, then gave the proceeds to the board via PayPal. Then, we'll have a team of "accountability experts..."

Seriously, you people are taking yourselves too seriously.

If people are worried about oversight of the account, maybe the beamters could have access. I trust all of them. People tell me I'm too trusting, though. :dead:

"A cheque (or check in American English) is a document[nb 1] that orders a payment of money from a bank account."

Here I am about to correct everyone on their poor spelling.

Jeremy, I think it's a fantastic idea. One important advantage of using paypal, is that it makes the donation scheme a lot easier for those of us who are posting outside the States. I am by no means an advocate of paypal, however it is logically, and financially the best option for an international forum such as this, and I salute the idea.

Quite a ways back and on a very different scale, yes.
Typically it means setting up a demand deposit (checking) account where the funds received into the lockbox are "swept." In my experience, this was done nightly after the lockbox receipts had been totalled, the credit card payments appropriately applied, money orders endorsed, interbank funds transfers completed, etc.
Usually under this system the payments are made to the designated entity, e.g., "mye28.com systems," or somesuch. Full addy: mye28.com systems, Box 13579A, Philadelphia PA. 23456. This deals with physical payments. Funds transfers via wire or the web would adhere to procedures which established by the financial institution and the ACH function. Typically these are quite straightforward. This is, de facto, what PayPal does. In Europe, it's known as a "PostGiro" system and has been in place for eons thru various countries' post office systems.

What the costs might be on this, I don't know, but a 1% fee of funds handled would not be out of line; you get into big $$$ inflows and things scale down to lower percentages.
But I think it's worth doing the research.

A bank lockbox would be cost prohibitive for something this small. It is a cash management service provided by banks to clients that receive a massive number of payments by check like a power company, telephone company, credit card company, etc. I don't think any bank would do one for something as small as what is required here.

How much does it cost to run this site for a year?

I don't think the costs to run the site are astronomical (correct me if I'm wrong) and I honestly don't care if Jeremy is spending half of whatever I may donate on hookers, cocaine and snotty postcards to Matt H on Ban Island.
This

I agree, I don't care where it goes and I personally don't care what Jeremy spends the money on. As long as I get to hang around here. I'm thinking we could stuff the coffers for a full year (or 3) with a fundraiser. Much like what was done in the parts section recently, donate the proceeds from parts for sale, or donate cash. That way everyone can participate, even the starving college student types with an extra part or two laying around. As far as I know everything went fine with the transactions, the honor system works with honorable people so it doesn't add anything to Jeremy's plate. Make it a yearly thing and if there's excess-take a vacation, or if a member needs a hand-write him a check, great idea about sponsoring a table or a meet BTW. Maybe shagrath would be interested in doing the MyE28.com paraphanelia with a portion of proceeds going to the site.

I'd like to mention here that this is the absolute best forum I've ever been on and that is a reflection of everyone here that makes it so great. Thanks Jeremy.

I disagree on one point...TSMacNeil should get a star

No offense, but I don't think it's necessary to know.
How about just posting it's time to start, and then when the necessary funds are in post it.
When more is needed repeat.

No offense either but I disagree with that. I trust that Jeremy is honest but see no reason why the actual cost to run the site for a year should not be disclosed if we are being asked to contribute funds.

I'll add in another vote for not having some bullshit committee to oversee things. I'll send money in for the site and Jeremy's hookers and never bat an eye. Is there anyway, however, that we can up the size of paying members p.m. inbox? I keep having to delete messages that i don't want to have to delete because my inbox cup runneth over.

Even if everything stays 100% as it is currently, I'm in no questions asked. Just post the payment link and amount.

This alone would be worth the cost of admission.
