Don't get a Bav (and yes, they all have M30s, anything badged a Bavaria has carbs. If its badged a 3.0Si, its injected.). Regardless, they are terrible in the snow and they rust way too easily.

Seriously, don't over think this Blake. Go find a semi good condition running used pickup truck. 4wd.

GM 1500, F150, whatever. Doesn't really matter.

Run it in 2wd until you get stuck. Then get yourself out in 4wd. Never drive around in 4wd because if you get yourself stuck in 4wd, you aint getting out easily.

That's the exact same lecture my dad gave me when I bought a new '81 Jeep Scrambler. I didn't listen to him, and had a heck of a lot of fun in that Yeep. Spent a lot of time shoveling snow to get it un-stuck too.

As for Blake, suck it up Buttercup, The Swedes drove those things for years in snowy mountains. I suggest good tires, a steel snow shovel and maybe some ballast. Chains if it gets bad. Its an old Volvo fer gawds sake , Dents just add patina if the car is over 15 yrs old.. 4 wheel drive just gets you stuck worse

I'm not a student, for one. I'm also not looking for a new vehicle this season. I have just been more interested in old school man mobiles, ie 4x4s and AWDs. I'm looking way into the fire but thought this could be a fun thread. Seeing as I haven't posted in a page and a half and it still made 3 pages, I'd say it is a successfully interesting topic. 1973 IH with Snow Plow - $1800


I figure I could get somewhere around $1000 for the plow. I just have no idea how often people need to buy one. If it's a good working plow, it must be a decent daily driver, right?

All depends on the plow.

If I could get my hands on a relatively rust free IH that isn't 6K - 10K I'd be all over it!

Still miss the 1980 scout II diesel my dad junked.

It's not about it being a IH, it's the components they chose to install in their vehicles.

It all depends on how rusty it is. It doesn't look bad from the pics, but trucks with plows are usually very rusty. I wouldn't plan on $1000 for the plow, but you could certainly get something. If it runs well, isn't structurally rusty, and the wiring hasn't been all hacked up, I'd definitely go for it. You'll need to spend some time this summer rust-proofing. Otherwise you'll end up sweeping it up into a dust pan.

One more thing. Parts are fairly expensive for Internationals and are hard to find. Here are some good parts sites:

Jeep cherokee will get you there. I got me one where i live at.

I didn't realize he was looking at it for a DD. I definitely wouldn't get that as a DD. Parts could take weeks to get and there WILL be problems. It's a great side/project vehicle, though.

Sounds like that's the one Blake will buy. He's got enough people telling him no to make his decision.

What Mike said. Most plow trucks get beat to death, and the fact that this one is selling for less than $2,000 IN THE FLIPPIN WINTER is a huge red flag.
